Hello my uhh friends. I have not been on in a while Have been way to busy. We have been remodeling our kitchen and are now nearing the end it has been a long and expensive road. My wife and I are taking a long weekend April 21st to Hatteras Island. We were there in 2007 for a second Honeymoon very beautiful place. A lot of picture opps. While there I am planning to visit Pea Island national wildlife refuge. I have read that the best time to go is spring. For those who have been there at this time I am wondering about some of the birds and nesting habits. I was there in 2007 during the summer and it was just amazing. I can't imagine it being any better in the spring that would be over the top for photo opps. I will be spending the whole day there before sunrise and just before sunset. Thank you for any suggestions. I will be taken my Sigma 150 to 500 for this well deserved weekend. Also should I put it on my 6d or my 60d. I am thinking my 60d and my 6d paired with my 17 to 40 L lens for landscape shots.
Can't help you with the camera question but, this sounds like a marvelous trip and time to be there. Have fun and post some photos when you return.

https://www.fws.gov/refuge/pea_island/My wife and I were there in February. Very nice photos of Tundra swans and Coots. A trip to Salvo Day Use park has a trail that we saw a load of Yellow-rumped Warblers (may be gone by April) and a killdeer.
We travel to Buxton and go to the Cape Point campground where you can see many types of birds once you pass the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. We have seen (mid-May) deer, herons, egrets, ibis, meadowlarks, swallows, various gulls, mockingbirds, etc. In Feb we saw fewer birds but did get great shots of a kestral, robins, cardinals.

Was in Hatteras town in october, the beach is gone, last hurricane destroyed all the beach. The water is at the trees on the island. Ocracoke is fine, plenty of beach for fishing and photos.
