I might mention, if you are fortunate enough to see Denali, consider yourself lucky. We took the 8 hour tour into the park and the best we got was the guide pointing to where the mountain could be seen if it weren’t for the clouds. He said it is far more likely you will not see the mountain than it is that you will. We did see several grizzly bears, moose, and a wolf carrying a caribou leg back to the den. We were there the last week of June, 2009, and it snowed for 6 of the 8 hours we were in the park.

I want to say thanks also to everyone for the info. We fly out Friday morning for a 2 week "trip of a lifetime" to Alaska, staring in Anchorage. We will be traveling by rail from Anchorage to Denali, taking the all day bus trip thru Denali then the rail to Fairbanks. We have a riverboat cruise scheduled for Fairbanks. Then we fly to Juneau then to Glacier Bay where we are taking a whole day cruise. Back to Juneau then back to Anchorage. From Anchorage we are taking the rail to Seward and then renting a car for the last few days, so we are hoping to experience a little of everything on this trip. I am taking my Nikon D3000, Tameron 18-270 lens and my husband just bought a Nikon P500 36x zoom so he can also take photos. We have several extra batteries and memory cards so hopefully we are well equiped and prepare! Looking forward to an amazing trip and hope you have an awesome trip a well!

Many areas in Alaska now have electricity, so you'll be able to charge your batteries.

:D

I'm excited and ready !!

We're on about the same schedule this year. If coming through Boise and interested in traveling with another RV PM me. Unless I get inspired at the RV show this weekend we'll be pulling a Fifth Wheel. I'm hoping diesel prices continue to drop!

My wife and I took an Alaskan cruise in July, 2014, and we would love to do it again.

Our first stop was in Juneau, to visit the Mendenhall Glacier Park. Juneau is actually in a rain forest environment, and it RAINS. It rained all day, and because several cruise ships hit Juneau at the same time, the park was...busy. The transport buses could not pick up passengers quickly, so many were stuck waiting unprotected in the rain for twenty or thirty minutes.

Still, the park was beautiful, and I recommend it.

I tell you all this to suggest you carry proper rain protection for yourselves, but also your camera gear. I purchased an inexpensive "Rainsleeve" product at my local retailer, and it was a lifesaver. These are still available online, and perhaps locally. I see they offer versions that can cover a shoe-mounted flash. They offer several levels of sophistication, and of course cost.

My inexpensive sleeve protected my camera and zoom lens at the park, in the rain, and later on a whale watch cruise, which also had some rain.

Enjoy your trip; protect your gear.

You’re a day shy of 5 years late!
