Finding this beautiful bird in southwestern Idaho is a rarity.
Sometimes we just get lucky.
WOW!! This is a rarity in the States. It habitat is the western border of California, Oregon and then mid Washington and northern Idaho, and like you say rare in southern Idaho. It is the biggest owl we have. It is common in Canada and Alaska but in the lower forty eight it is rare. Really good find, they are hard to spot; you hear them mostly but that's about it.
Beautiful photos; they both belong on your wall.
Wow. Those are two great looking shots of the owl. Especially those yellow and black eyes.

Both shots are great but the second one is really awesome. You have one for your bird list that I am probably not going to get before I die.
Such a beautiful and well done set and one fantastic bird, and agree with tramsey in that they should be on a wall. The best image of the Great Gray that I've ever seen! Thanks!
Luck does pay off. Excellent capture
