For a relatively inexpensive walk around lens, look at the Canon ef-s 18-135. I'm pretty sure the wide aperture lens you mention (sounds like the Canon 24-70 2.8 L - a fantastic lens for its intended purpose which is $1700 and does not have image stabilization) for a general purpose walk around lens may not be the best compromise. Consider adding a fast 35mm or 50mm prime for situations where you must shoot available light and moving subject matter. I always look at sites like Ken Rockwell's reviews before making a purchasing decision.

Thanks Mark. Will look into the 18-85mm lens. This may be what I was looking for.

Look for a used or refurb Sigma 17-70 2.8-4 Contemporary, very nice upgrade for you - especially for the money - later, get a 70-xxx

For a crop sensor walk around upgrade take a look at Canon's efs 18-85mm. Although I also have a T6s, I have & still use my xti w/this lens w/great results.

I have never seen an 18-85. Canon does make an efs 17-85 f/3.5-5.6 IS USM which is currently selling for about $200 at B&H.

I have a Sigma 24-70 F2.8 IF EX DG lens. It's my favorite walk around lens and the price was reasonable compared to others. Use it on my 7dII.

Useful reply. I agree with it.

My first paragraph may suggest I'm encouraging you to not spend money needlessly, so I'll counter with this point: your camera is quite old - in digital terms, megapixels and so forth. Have you thought about upgrading?

Dean - coming back to 'walk around' and Rebel bodies, the EF-S zooms run 18- to whatever given the crop factor so that 'wide' at 18mm when cropped is equivalent to a 24mm full frame image. So, if you go with a lens that starts at 24mm, your images will have a perspective of using a 35mm lens on a full frame sensor. I didn't realized what I was missing until I purchased the EF-S 10-22 and could get close and wide. Nowadays, I use my 16-35L as much as any lens.

If you're not doing so already, use the website http://www.the-digital-picture.com/ for thorough and well-written reviews of all things Canon and some 3rd party equipment used on Canon.

Thank you for the endorsement, LaoXiang.
