That's a cool shot. And the merge seems to be well done. I've yet to do a successful one.

Thanks for the compliment. The merge is the EASY part. I used Lightroom, but Photoshop has an option for doing this as well.
The trick is to keep the camera level so I use the virtual horizon in Nikon Menu to make shure it is set right. The tripod needs to be level as well but there are levels on tripods to check this. Then when you shoot---be sure to over lap by at least 40% of the image. Many folks try to use a short overlap---maybe 10-15% but i have found that that does not work. To start with, just make your image one row. You can add additional rows when you get the hang of it.

Have fun.

Absolutely terrific merge! This photo is a "wall hanger," for sure!

Thanks so much. The merge part is easy---it the shooting that creates the challenge.

When can you see the Milky Way down in Florida? Here, in NY it's Aug - October I believe.

The MW starts to rise each year in late February reaching a high point in July and then drops steadily until early November with it is gone.
Full arch shots are best until mid June when it is too high to get foreground elements.

i have a app on my phone called Go Sky Watch which give me all the details and to location, time and date.

What exactly is a "merge"? Is it layers on top or maybe joined like a panorama picture? Could you enlighten this beginner please? That is a photograph to aspire to! Magnificent!

The ten images were "merged" in Lightroom 6 or Photoshop. There is a tool in both programs that does it for you. The trick is getting the right angles in camera when you shoot and getting enough overlap so the program can make a match.

Glad you liked the i mage. It is pretty easy to do. Just takes a bit of practice. Start with a 3 pic merge until you get the hang of it. I suggest merging with the camera in the vertical position.

The Milky Way over Big Cypress Preserve.
'Twas a beautiful morning in the Big Cypress Preserve. At 4:30 this morning, no wind, and while a tad chilly, there were NO, absolutely NO mosquitoes.
The Milky Way, blended with the rising sun to create a scene well worth staying up to see.

Please view the download.
Thanks for looking.

Nikon D810, 24-70mm lens at 24mm. 4000 ISO, f2.8, 20 seconds

This is a 10 shot merger. All shots taken in the vertical position.

Larry,

Simply Marvelous in every respect . . . Marvelous!

Best Regards,
Tom

Thanks for commenting. You are the first person I've known to use the Italian name for the MW. Nice touch.
Being that I'm in south Florida I'm partial to its Native American name: The way of the birds.

I appreciate the compliment.

What program did you merge them with? Again super shot

I do 90 plus percent of my post work in Lightroom 6. Lightroom has a merge program that works quite well.

Thanks for the compliment.
