I tried my new lens out for the first time yesterday, ranging from these bird shots at 300mm to landscapes at 28mm. It performed well--sharp throughout the range, but no good as a birding lens when used on a full frame. I took some shots of gulls etc at Brooms Head, where I usually use a 600mm on a D7100. Unfortunately, it just did not have enough reach. The butcherbird in this post was a friendly one & was only about 6 yards away. Anyway, I didn't buy it as a birding lens--I bought it to use as a general purpose 'walk around' lens with a larger range than my 24-105mm, & it will do this job well. Downloading is recommended.

Nice shooting, Earl. One of my favorite birds. Our shrikes fill the same niche over hear.
