I purchased a refurbished Nikon D5500 from Cameta a few months ago and I am really liking it. However, 2 weeks ago I noticed 2 circular clear spots when looking through the viewfinder. After attempting to remove the spots without success from the lens and camera, I decided to try the 'clean sensor' setting. OMG what a mess that created!
So I called Cameta a week ago last Monday. They said to ship the camera body to them and they would send it on to Nikon for repair. Last Wed. Cameta notified me they had received the camera and sent it to Nikon. They stated they would let me know if there was any charge for cleaning/repairing the camera. I was told to allow 2-4 weeks. Well 8 days later (past Tuesday), Cameta contacted me to say my camera was ready. It would cost me just the $13 shipping fee. Nikon cleaned all parts of the camera including the sensor, updated the firmware, adjusted the auto focus, and did a check of all the camera functions to be sure everything was working properly.
I received back my good as new camera late this afternoon. 10 days after I sent it off to Cameta.
Cameta Customer Service explained everything to me, kept me informed each step of the way during the process. And Nikon also appears to have done more than what I expected them to do.
When there are so many complaints about companies and customer service, I thought it would be only fair to mention two who provided great service to this customer.
I have been very pleased with all my transactions and conversations with Cameta Camera.

I purchased my refurbished Nikon from Cameta also, and on the few times that I have had reason to contact them, I ave always gotten the same exemplary customer service that you describe. The same applies to Nikon repair. I sent my rain damaged D7100 out on a Monday and had it back in my hands the following Thursday.
Thanks for sharing your experiences with the group.
Cameta is local to me (15 minutes away). I deal almost exclusively with Cameta for new/refurbished/used equipment.
They have always been more then willing to go above and beyond.
Nikon repair center is also 20 minutes away, in the opposite direction.
All of my repairs/adjustments go directly to Nikon and in most cases, repairs/adjustments, etc. have been quick.
Please name cities where Cameta Camera has a store. Thanks.

Cameta has only one storefront and that is in Amityville, NY.

Nikon dumped most of all the Nikon service centers through the country so they could get all the business. Many shops were forced out of business. This costs the photographer more money for repair and longer down time. They refuse to sell you any parts. I have gone through 9 Nikon cameras and the next will not be Nikon.
In repeated occasions when someone has asked in this forum about buying refurb I have always mentioned Cameta. Not only as you have seen the customer service is top notch but also they offer a one year warranty on their refurb cameras and that is 9 months longer than anybody else including Nikon.
I have bought from Cameta and I can only say good things about their quality and service.

Their additional included warranty is a major reason why I purchased from them.
I also sold a camera to them and in that transaction the communication and entire process was also first rate.

More idiotic mis-information. You really need to get a life!

Yes, sensor cleaning can be like that. You remove two spots and add four more.
Yes, Cameta has an excellent reputation.

It is very encouraging to hear this positive news concerning "Excellent Customer Service" at Cameta Camera & Nikon. I just bought a refurbished Nikon DX Prime 35mm 1.8G lens from Cameta, works great, and it arrived very secure. Good to know if I do have any issues, Cameta Camera will provide great, reliable Customer service.
You are right. I have done most of my business with Cameta. They are great.I really am impressed with thier 1 year warranty on refurbished whereas other companies including Nikon only give you 90 days.

Would you be so kind as to specify what information is incorrect.

I never had any problems with their service and Nikon has always been professional in dealing with my equipment. They even cleaned my camera for free.

I have had several very good experiences purchasing both new and refurbished cameras from Cameta. There service was impeccable. On one occasion I had to return a product, not because it was bad but because I changed my mind. I was prepared to pay a small restocking fee. But the gentleman at Cameta said no fee, they expected this to happen occasionally and were just happy that I might choose them again. I damn sure have. When I purchased my new Sony a6300 from them a year ago and had some problems with it, they walked me through things and made me happy again. (And I have been happy with my a6300 ever since.)
