Puzzle I can't solve:
Recently I was in Cuba in a workshop. A Spanish teacher in my wife's school would like .tiff photos for her big Spring show, 3000 pixels short side. I began in LR, finished in PS, saved each image (so LR would have it) then, still in PS, changed each image to 300 res and 3000 pix, added my ©, flattened the layer and saved each image in a folder in a flash drive with consecutive numbers (Myname.01.tif).
The problem is that some of the images in the flash drive, maybe 1/3, are not capable of being opened by preview, although all can be reopened in PS.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

If you access the exif data of the final renditions is there a common denominator of the affected files that is not present in the files that can be accessed?

Could you put that into language that a senior could interpret, please? On the other hand, since every save is done exactly the same, even in my ignorance, I would guess I will find no difference.

Perhaps a hardware issue? Flash drives have a limited life. Can you use a different stick or validate they are working correctly from hard drive before copying them elsewhere?

Flash drive is new, and works properly.

Could be defective... do they all open correctly from your hard drive?

If you are only using PS to add your copyright info and resize the image you might consider doing all of that in LR when using the export module. When I am sharing images I use the export module to create a new sub folder named "Exported" for the new jpgs, rename the new jpg as needed, resize the new images, add copyright details and add water mark info as needed. I can then view the contents of the Exported sub folder using my preview program. If everything is up to snuff I then use my PC operating system to either move or copy the Jpgs to the needed media, i.e. Drop Box, flash drive or in my case Mac Photo so my wife can view them on her tablet.

Preview won't work on files exceeding a certain size. Tif files are huge so no wonder why you can't view them. Don't worry about it. Who cares if you can't see the preview.

It's odd that the teacher wants TIF files... JPEGs are much more universal, for most purposes.

I think the correct answer has to be the tiff files are too big. Teach will use Preview to choose photos (I'm "in competition" with a Spanish pro friend of hers, each of us providing about 35 shots, to give her about 50 to use.) The Arts dept will make the prints, so for her purpose I added jpeg files for those too big. I guess this "little job stuff" happens when your spouse asks you to do a favor for someone she likes on her staff. Ah, love.

Go back into Photoshop and save into another format, say .psd.

The OP said it was a requirement to have them saved as a TIFF. Anyways, PSD would likely be even larger in size than the TIFF especially if they are multi-layered.
