I tried my new lens out for the first time yesterday, ranging from these bird shots at 300mm to landscapes at 28mm. It performed well--sharp throughout the range, but no good as a birding lens when used on a full frame. I took some shots of gulls etc at Brooms Head, where I usually use a 600mm on a D7100. Unfortunately, it just did not have enough reach. The butcherbird in this post was a friendly one & was only about 6 yards away. Anyway, I didn't buy it as a birding lens--I bought it to use as a general purpose 'walk around' lens with a larger range than my 24-105mm, & it will do this job well. Downloading is recommended.

Oh wow, Earl. This is a new bird to me. Beautiful shots of a very attractive bird.
BTW, I have the Nikon version of that lens. Use it on my D7200.
Way too pretty a bird to be such a meanie.
Nice. Sharp and well composed.

Fine looking bird, excellent captures.
Nothing wrong with those shots!!!!
Beautiful shots with your new toy, Earl. I love the ruffled feathers - great detail.

I love the quotes in your signature, infocus. Got a real kick out of the last one!
Nice, you've got some weird creatures in that country!
Love these shots Dook. I also have the Tamron 28-300 and like the quality and lightweight of it. But, as you stated it is not powerful enough for bird photography.
