Nikon farms their lenses out so you really don't know where they are made unless you research it a bit.

they farm out glass etc. I believe Canon is almost all farmed out though except for the fluorite elements.
Assembly by Nikon (Or who ever) is all around the East, Canon is nearly all Japan with the exception of some of the less expensive lenses. Does not make them bad but kind of like saying your car is all American. No chance.
No denigration but they all farm out stuff. Look at Nikon uses Sony sensors as well can't even make their own. No problem as the Sony sensors are good.

Please check the facts before spreading this bull crap. Nikon glass is made by Hikari Glass, a WHOLLY OWNED SUBSIDIARY OF NIKON, where they do everything from sorting and mixing the silica sand to final polishing. Your comment that your car is not all American because the parts are made in various countries is similarly misguided and is akin to saying General Motors does not build Chevrolet cars because they are assembled by the wholly owned subsidiary Chevrolet Motor Division, which can shut down the whole operation at their whim. Whatever happened to Pontiac Motor Division? I remember now. It was closed by General Motors because GM owned it!

Yes, I tested the Tamron SP70-200mm F/2.8 G2 (Model A025) against the Nikon 70-200mm EL F. Everyone please remember that this is just my opinion and I am sure many will disagree. I wish I could stick with Nikon for all my lenses as I do with camera bodies. I own over 100 Nikon lenses and only 5 Tamron in cases where Tamron does a better job for me than Nikon.

I see that! It's OK that people disagree just hoping to have civil discussions and learn from others also. Thanks for the encouragement!

Not in the same class as the Nikon but considerably less expensive.

I keep hearing that the Tamron is equally as good as Nikon, but I'd personally go with Nikon.

Hey, what works for you is absolutely perfect, but to be frank, the FL is superior to almost anything Ive ever tested. The only thing better that I own IMO, is the 400FL & the 200 f/2. I have read many nice reviews about the Tamron lens, but I everything Ive read about the FL lens is just as good as advertised. The FL is just an AMAZING lens!!!

Spent hours with both Nikon and Tamron last week shooting pattern cards. Have the last two Nikon 70-200 lenses. Tamron and Tokina have been outperforming Nikon with many lenses over the past 2-3 years. I purchase the best lenses for the job regardless of the price and have no axe to grind. I would encourage you to also look at the performance specs. I am a Nikon customer and have been for almost 40 years and have stayed with their products exclusively until recently. That is unfortunate but its the nature of the lens business now. Nikon has been having some trouble lately and I really hope they will step up and compete with the market.

Nikon has stepped it up and has competed strongly with the competition.
The 400 2.8 FL, 600 f/4 FL lens and the D4s, D5 & D500 are all simply awesome and are rated as some of the best in the market to date.
Maybe your referring to the consumer market products as opposed to the professional market.

For my work, ruggedness and reliability are key. As I never have, nor never will, take pictures of pattern cards, I am more interested in performance in the field. There are many alternatives and I would most certainly agree that the non oem guys have upped their game with Sigma far in the lead, IMHO. YMMV. Best of luck.

I agree, I believe in real world testing, like shooting paid sporting gigs.
I dont care about sitting at home on a rainy day for hours while shooting at charts or pattern cards.
He must have way too much time on his hands or is just bored, but to mislead others about his testing, which btw has no proof or shows us his results.
I personally would take a consensus from the many tests and reviews by a few respected websites that I truly trust.

I must have missed the valid testing and proof or displayed results of the rest of us. It's raining and I have nothing to do...maybe I'll play with my camera. I must be a horribly boring person...oh,excuse me, I almost stepped into the Attic.
