Hi, I'm Grammabd. I retired in 2007 and that's when I bought my Nikon D200. I LOVE the pictures (most of the time). I have used Program auto almost exclusively because it is sooo easy. In 2017 I want to learn to use aperture to be able to take pictures of a field of flowers that is not out of focus for half the picture.
Anyone have any quick and easy ways to help me remember which settings to use. I love to go to the hill country in and around Fredericksburg, TX for bluebonnet photos. And I've been to High Island, TX for birding pictures - what a treat!
I live in Matagorda County and yesterday I saw a small field of Sandhill Cranes but I knew they were just a little too far for my camera to reach them.
Looking forward to see what everyone likes to photograph!

Welcome to the forum. I strongly suggest you pick up a good book or two on digital photography, it's the best way to learn...

Welcome to the forum at UHH. For landscapes, shoot with aperture set at f22. The larger the aperture number, the more of it is in focus.

Thanks, Tom - this is what I can't seem to remember - I will print it out and tape it to my camera bag!

Hi Pat,
Know your Round Rock area - one of my sons lived "next door" in Cedar Park for a few years.
I've been able to visit High Island several times and haven't tired of it yet! Just take a picnic lunch and spend the day!

Hi, Grammadb! I am in the same boat as you, I retired last year and picked up my D7100 camera. I have learned a lot about how to shoot in raw and using manual settings through forums like this, people are so helpful. But the best thing I did was to take a semester course in Beginning Photography at my local community college. Best wishes on your journey!
