Get the Nikon software. It is called ViewNXi and has a mac version and is free. And it is compatible with the coolpix L830
https://www.nikonusa.com/en/nikon-products/product/imaging-software/viewnx-i.htmlWhen you open the program you have to select the picture you want to work with. Then you click "File and camera information" in the window on the right side of your screen. Then you will see the basic info you are looking for. If you want to see detailed settings of your camera also you click the i (info) sign next to the "File and camera information" and a large drop down window will show you everything about your camera settings that is possible to find.
I can not explain this better, hope it helps.

You might try Jeffrey Friedl's EXIF viewer at
http://exif.regex.info/exif.cgiThat will allow you to view the metadata on an image either from your computer or something available online.
I used that for several years, but recently due to an ISP change he had to reconfigure it due to bandwidth problems. As I understand it he has made it available but is monitoring the usage to see if he can afford to continue. So at some point in the future it may disappear. But as of today (2017-02-12) it's up.

I am trying to obtain EXIF metadata for the images from my Nikon Coolpix L-830. Recently several individuals have suggested downloading "Faststone image viewer" or "Irfan View". I have downloaded both sites, but there is no indication as to how I can get to this metadata. One instruction from the UHH forum stated by using the Irfan view , then click on the info icon (lower case i in a blue circle), then click on EXIF. My problem is that I cannot find any info icon. Please help me find the EXIF data.

You must download the plug-ins for Irfanview. Then press I and E for more information.

Normally the best method in Windows is to right click anywhere on the image and left click properties and the EXIF will be displayed.
Any decent PP app will also display the exif data.

That is the easiest method, and the quickest. It is not anything close to the best.
The reason is because it invariably presents only a portion of the meta data that is available. Plus it shows data but does not allow editing the data. Hence that is a very worthwhile method, but it really does need to be backed up with a more versatile meta data program.
In FastStone simply click on your file to open the picture and move the curser to the right margin. This will open a panel showing EXIT and access to the histogram as well as an area to comment on the jpg.
That's it.
Bob,
I too have struggled finding theEXIF Data, Your explanation is excellent, and appreciated. Simple Cmd "I"
Gracias

Right click on your photo and select get info (on the Mac)

If you have a mac just open the image in 'Preview' and click on 'get info' . The table will give you partial EXIF including camera type, focal length, shutter speed and aperture.
what do you do when you view DL pics on here?? there is NO preview selection in the menu.

Not true. You can use it to edit many informational fields such as camera make and model, copyright, metering mode, etc.
In fact most fields are editable except for the ones that would screw things up such as in the "Image" section and the "File" section.
Would you please explain how that relates to the original post. Perhaps you, inadvertently, replied to another post.
Thanks,
Mark

Interestingly it seems the shutter-count is not recorded for mirrorless cameras, although they too have mechanical shutters (in addition to electronic ones on some models). Why only DSLRs (mirror and shutter types)
In FastStone click View>Image Properties. You will see the EXIF data. Or simple type "I" on your keyboard.
In Windows, just right click on the image and select "properties".
In Faststone:
1. top menu - click view
2. select "File Properties". That is the EXIF.

Mark, I believe he would have to click "Image Properties" which right above file properties.
Do you use Windows. If so, just highlight the picture in a file. No need to open it. Right click on properties, then right click on details. All info is there. Date, Time, ISO, Lens setting, Shutter speed, Aperture and plus or minus exposure setting. Good luck. David
