I will be visiting family in Panacea, FL, April 5 thru April 19th. Flying into Tallahassee. I need advice on where to photo wildlife and birds in this area of Florida. I won't have a car as my brother is planning to show me the area around where he lives. Neither he or his wife are into photography so afraid they won't know where to take me for photographing wildlife. Our range will be from Tallahassee west to Panama City along the Gulf Coast. Need recommendations to places to ask them to show me.

Waculla there are many swamp creatures there, plus the park is beautiful. It's just outside Tallahassee near Crawfordville.

Tarpon Springs is a very pretty little town with a cool park out in the gulf and some nice shots of sponge divers/sellers, but no idea about wildlife.

St. Mark's Wildlife Refuge. When visiting family in Tallahassee, I always try spending a couple days shooting there.
St Marks is very close to my brothers house. I will definately have him take me there. Crawfordville is also close to him. Thats where they shop for groceries etc. He lives across the road from the Ockalockne (SP) River. He has a pontoon boat he fishes from along the gulf. Hoping he will take me out while I'm there. I plan to take canon 100-400 L lens and 18-250 Signa lens. Due to carryon bag space I think these 2 lenses should cover me while there.

As I suggested to "Blues", Fort Pickens.

P.S. Peg Leg Pete's is a restaurant just west of Pensacola Beach (on Ft. Pickens Rd.) that serves raw oysters for $00.50 each on Wednesdays, YUM

Check out the zoo in Tallahassee. There's a good possibility you can get some fun shots of the otters, but other things as well. Have a great time!
Just to the west of Panacea you've got Apalachicola and St George Island. Perfect for tourists and wildlife. Some of the best sunsets in Florida plus dolphins, bird life etc. you're surrounded by wildlife management areas. Call the Franklin County tourist folks
http://www.saltyflorida.com. They are very eco friendly and can offer great advice.

Go to Apalachicola. It is a very pristine area mostly untouched by tourists.
Find the guy that does air boat rides. He will take you back into the Wildlife preserve & Blackwater areas where he must pole in, motor off.
This is futher than Panama City, but it is a great place to visit.

As a local, I'd suggest that you don't need to travel for great opportunities. Pensacola is probably three and a half hours drive from where you are, maybe more. The area around you has great wildlife and scenery and is not over touristy.
I agree with the suggestion for the Apalachicola, Clarabelle and St George area, plus up The Apalachicola River.
Please talk to the Franklin County tourist folks - link in my post above.
It's a beautiful area.
On Facebook, John Spohrer does a great job with Apalachicola bay, for some ideas...
Great advice, thank you. I will check in with them.
