I take all my pictures while kayaking so it is a matter of being in the right place at the right time. Using a long lens without a tripod is always a challenge but when you add the movement of the kayak and trying to get into position to take the shot you miss more than you get but you just have to hang in there and hope for the best.

What were you suing for camera, lens? I'm so interested to know what can be managed that well on a kayack.

D3200 Nikon camera with a 70/300mm lens. I have to shot in the automatic mode because I don't have time to set up the shot. I use the sport setting because it gives me the fastest shutter speed. The hardest part is keeping the kayak in position in moving water. By the time you put your paddle down and pick up the camera the kayak has turned you around. I mainly go in lakes but the waves from the wind are a real challenge.

I can't imagine trying that. You need a fishing kayak to stabilize it a bit. Looks like so much fun.

It sounds like it is very difficult in a kayak but HOLY COW look at the shots that you have. They are spectaicular.

Excellent set, and that's not even taking the adverse conditions into consideration!

What if any water proofing you use. I have a D5500, haven't gotten over the fear of taking it on the water yet. Lots of blue herons and eagles here too
