It has been my practice since I began to use Nikon bodies to fit them with Nikon optics. NONE of my Nikon lenses and I have one from the late 60's and others from the 70's and 80's, which are not obsolete, have ever given me reasons for concern and all of them see frequent use with my Nikon cameras. Most recently I had a 50mm f1.4 S lens from 1974 AI converted for use with my digital cameras. It is a superb lens that has already given me very good photographs.
I seriously doubt it Nikon will change the lens mount in the near future. They had kept the same lens mount for over 50 years.
I can understand that there are lenses Nikon does not make and I can also understand that many times we are short of a good budget to buy the Nikon lens we want but it is issues like the one you have right now that are totally eliminated when using a Nikon or Canon lens with the corresponding bodies. Yes, many times you pay more but you get the peace of mind of knowing that that specific lens was made to work with the manufacturers cameras.
The optics of independent lens makers are better than ever but construction, tolerances and perhaps quality control are not at a par with Nikon or Canon not to forget Pentax.
You simply get what you pay for.

Nice I'm sure he has found a solution to this problem with his lens and camera but unfortunately it's just a little brand snobbery where the help in this unfortunately a lot of Nikon /nikkor Are being made in China build highest quality possible Hehehe. In the last 40 years I've had more problems with Nikon lenses then I have any other that's just my experience Unfortunately coming to this website to try to get help from other people who are into the same thing seems to be Point less

Just a dumb response that's does nothing more than reflect a baseless personal bias. We're all guilty of having them but best not to air them.

You're right and I'm sorry!

I have the same lens on a d7200... have not experienced those problems... Have you cleaned the contacts on the body as well as the lens? In many cases that is the key to the problem... I am very pleased with the lens...

mwsilvers - Sorry..."limping" = it works but has a problem. I have explained details in the post about 5 days ago , but got many unrelated responses. I have 16-300 Tamron on Nikon 7100. Since Christmas , the AF focusing is not able to catch and lock the focus. It happens once in 20-30 shots. When I set BBF , that button works fine. ( PS: I know how to set & use BBF = how does it work exclusively of the 1/2 trigger)
Somebody already wrote me that she has the same problem with this lens but not with other lenses.

I just can not believe your statement that zoom lenses generally do this.... after a 1 or 2 yrs. Can you please confirm?

Thanks Miro

First, I can absolutely confirm about lens creeping. It doesn't occur on every zoom lens, nor does it necessarily occur on every copy of a particular lens model that exhibits creep. But the condition is fairly rampant. You can do some Google searches on the subject. My Tamron 18-270 creeps as does my Canon EFs 18-200 and my Canon EFs 15-85. A very common phenomenon on a variety of lenses as they age. Happily, the Tamron 16-300mm seems to be more resistant to zoom creep than many of its competing lenses so hopefully it won't be a problem for you. You'd also be surprised how many people have lenses that creep but don't shoot much pointing up or down at sharp angles and never notice it until they actually check.

Is this AF problem new? Is it getting steadily worse or remaining the same. What are the circumstances when the problem occurs. What shooting mode is your camera set to? Does it occur more towards the wide angle end of the lens or the telephoto? Does it occur at a variety of aperture settings? What about the light? Does the problem occur more in lower light situations or does it occur regardless of the available light? Have you cleaned the lens and camera contacts to ensure there isn't an intermittent communication problem?

Looking for the response from people who own Tamron zoom lens 16-300 for Nikon.

I have a focusing problem . Developed after a year and AF is "limping" every 20-30 pictures .

Thanks M

i have that same lens with a nikon..after about a year and a half i had the same issue..since there is a 6 year warranty i brought it to Tamron itself since it isn't far from me in NY..they are fast and reliable ..they said that it is a motor problem with that particular lens and they fixed it in only 2 days..works perfect now..i say send it to them and you can even call them directly ..it is a small place that does the work on the premises ..very courteous workers there ..i call them when i need anything like lens caps ..deal with them over the phone and get service fast..try it..you only have to spend the money for the postage..repair is free..
