What is the make of the rail? I don't think mfr4 is the name of the company?

I"m curious too. I have two (soon to be three) rails: I have used a Velbon Super slider for several years. It's pretty smooth for a budget rail-- and there are techniques that can be used to "get by".

If you are interested in focus stacking there is a lot of information in the UHH Macro forum. Come on over.

This looks quite similar to the Velbon I have. I wonder if Oben bought them out.

I have the Oben mfr4-5 macro focusing rail and like it.
Most of the stacked macros & close up shots I have posted in the true macro and close up forums were done with it.

Two thoughts - if you only want to adjust near/far that the Oben seems OK.

But, if you want to adjust both the near/far and left/right then it won't work. I use the KIWI 4 way focus rail, costs about $80.00. If the camera/lens is heavy I use the Manfroto's rails - have had them about 10years don't know if they are still available. But, 4 way rails are available - look on Amazon.

This is not correct, the Oben has both near/far and right/left adjustments.

Correct. My Velbon has the same design. They both have a shorter movement on the side to side axis. I removed mine because it wasn't that useful with my set up..

I removed mine as well. I plan to add a reduction gear to it so I can use it for super small stacking slices.

That I did not notice on the model that I looked at.

That is a great idea. I might do that with the part I removed. I'm not using it anyway and I wouldn't be using it for deep stacks anyway. I would likely apply it for when I stacked using my microscope objective. This makes a great deal of sense to me. Thank you....
