I currently have a D3100, a 35mm 1-1.8, a 18-55MM 3.5-5.6 (kit lense) and a 18-200 mm 3.5-5.6. I have a large HO scale (1/87) and wish to take pictures of the model railroad. I look forward to your assistance in improving my Timber River Railway layout pictures.

Welcome to the forum. Can't wait to see more of your RR shots.
Welcome to the Hog, John. You'll find lots of friends & plenty of good advice. I would suggest using a tripod & cable release for shooting because of the low light conditions even if you're using a flash. For close-up shots, learn about focus stacking & combining images in a good editing program like Lightroom. You'll find the depth of field very limited and focus stacking will improve the end result.
Welcome! Looking forward to your posts and pictures. Happy shooting!
