I've been out of town, and to busy to checkout any mail in detail. But that's OK, I can still show you my pics from the Terlingua Cemetery in Big Bend Nat'l Park, TX. I've shied away from B & W 'cause I want to see more definition. I'm really not sure what is expected of a B & W photo. Any ideas?

I think the best b&w start with an uncluttered composition that has a strong point of view - and are more about light, shadow, textures, shapes, and tones than just the absence of color.

In #2 there is a bush obstructing my view (and some out of focus stuff in foreground), and it's hard to tell what your subject is in #3.

#1 has some interesting possibilities, depending on what other angles you might have been able to shoot from - such as not including buildings in the background, and maybe less of the ground on the lower right corner.

Linda, Your description of basic b&w elements is the best I have ever read. Thanks. Do you have examples of your work to share? Matt
