In five years (maybe six) a star in the constellation Cygnus will explode and appear 10,000 times brighter than it does now.

As per the article, the twin star system is about "1,800 light-years away" from us. So the red nova, if and when we see it, is old news and has already occurred, about 1,795 or so years ago.
