I am considering buying the Canon Pixma Pro-100. I am a Mac user and pp in Photos, Affinity, and Luminar. Is the Pro-100 printer compatible with these editors?

Thanks,
Ralph

Hi Ralph, I have the Canon Pro-100 connected to my iMac running El Capitan (10.11.6 version) and can confirm "Photos" recognizes the printer. However, I cannot confirm if the printer will recognize and work with Affinity and Luminar as I have neither of those two software programs. I suggest you log onto the respective websites for each of those two software titles and check compatibility with your printer. Also, I would recommend you upgrade your printer driver for your Canon Pixma Pro-100 if you do buy the printer as often the driver that comes with the printer is not the latest driver. One other point I should probably make here is that if you do buy the printer, I suggest, based on my experiences, that it works best with Canon paper and printer profiles downloaded to your computer (just my opinion).
Regards,
Garth

Printers are printers, and there is extensive driver support for a wide variety of OS applications. The Pro-100 is an awesome printer. Get yourself from Epson Exhibition Fiber Paper and have fun.

As far as I know the program that does the PP just needs to output in a format the printer recognizes (jpeg, tiff etc), unless you are using a print app built into the PP app, then it needs to be compatible with the printer.

Regardless, just download and install Canon's Print Studio Pro for Mac* and print through PSP. I print nearly all images with PSP. It is a very good printing app.

*It is part of the bundle of apps and software that comes on disk with the printer, and upgrades etc are on Canon's support site.

Unfortunately, the large rebates don't seem to be available right now. For a year or more, they were selling for about $100.

If you are running Sierra on the Mac Print Studio Pro will not work also the plug-ins will not work for Photoshop 2017 or Elements 15.

I have one and although it prints great the ink runs out fast and is expensive to replace ($125 a pop). I got mine with a rebate and package of 50 13x19 paper which makes it a little more cost effective.

The Pro 100s are now bundled with cameras and you get a cash card from Canon as a rebate.

Problem with being a Macista and going by the path less taken. Sometimes the other companies just don't make stuff to work for you.

As soon as my warranty ran out I switched to Precision Colors. I got a kit of 8 refillable cartridges, chip reset device, filler caps and needles, 4 oz of each of the 8 inks (aprx 7 refills), instructions and links to tutorials for about $175. Prints look great. I did have to transfer the chips from an empty set of OEM cartridges. That was easy. Bottles of ink are reasonable in price. 16 oz $23 except the two grays, they are $26.
There are also a couple of guys on the net that produce a steady stream of videos on how to use the Pro 100 or testing things like ink fade and how to display prints to avoid fade. Precision Colors has downloadable profiles for many of the major brands of paper just for the Pro 100. Precision Colors seems to really like the Pro 100, they have a whole section of their web site devoted to just the Pro 100. Think that could have to do with the fact that Canon has sold a few freight train loads of the printer? For those of you who don't understand business, that is called serving the customer base.

If you search Craigslist you can often find a new unopened Pro-100 with the pack of 50 13x19 paper for $125-150. Be careful, some people sell them cheap and remove the ink or the heads.

If you buy the ink direct from Canon they often have specials where you get all sizes of free paper worth as much as the ink!

Another option is high quality, independently tested inks from precisioncolor.com. They sell a kit for $100 that allows you to refill the carts 4 times. If you print a lot you can buy larger refill kits. Though the mfg suggest don't buy more than you will use in 6 months.

On YouTube check out the videos on the Canon printers by Jose Rodriguez. He has many tips on using the printer with various paper combinations. He supports/ Test many Canon & Epson printers.
