I have the big IPad Pro and like it. Not for surfing, but reading books and use it with CamRanger to take photos off the D810. Lets me and the people I shoot review the shot on the spot and do another if they don't like it.

I'm not interested in an iMac, as I already have a MacBook Pro that works for me. I was curious as to the impressions of those who have the iPad Pro 12.9" pad.

Ipad 2 or newer versions are GREAT for LOOKING at photos. (Not for storage). Of course any i-IMac is even better. All apple screens are exceptional.

I've had my iPad Pro for a year and love everything about it, great for viewing photos and don't find the size a problem.

Photos are stored in the iCloud and on your home equipment. I love the iPad Pro for showing and viewing my favorite photos. If, for example, you are visiting with family and friends, who wants to go to their computer to see your photos?

The Pro is a pleasant way to share and to do a little light editing.

I have an iPad Air2 that I like, and keep my photos on. My problem is that the screen is smallish, and it's hard with these old eyes, to catch detail. I'm wondering if anyone uses the iPad Pro 12.9" for keeping photos on. I've looked at them and find that the screen is not only larger and easier to see, but seems to be much higher resolution, and the color rendering appears better than the iPad Air2. I'd appreciate any input on this iPad, as it would appear that it would be my next computer purchase. Thanks.

It seems you have answered your own question.

I have the small iPad Pro and keyboard. I love it. But I don't have trouble seeing it.

Keep in mind the iPad is not nearly as powerful as a laptop or desktop computer. For example, You can't attach an external monitor to it.

If you having problems with the small screen, You might want to consider something that allows you to attach a bigger monitor.

I agree with Cwilson341, I have the 12.9 Pro and love it. I don't store pictures on it, I use a removable hard drive, but the screen on the iPad is excellent and it is fast.

It is an awesome beast of a tablet, BUT it is heavy and expensive. The folks I've talked to who have it do complain about the weight and the awkward feel of the size when using it in an easy chair. But they do love the screen, which is very high resolution, very bright, and has great color depth.

Use an external 3.0 flash drive and display anywhere and on anything. Several are designed for phone or pad use with mini plugs. I just purchased a 64gig for $12 at Walmart on sale...this is a Skandisk with the sliding plug that is very compact and fast. Bring a pad, plug into a laptop, a computer, a phone or even a smart TV...

Great suggestion! I have a 55" Samsung Smart TV that we use to play video and stills media from both flash drives and our home network. My router has a USB 3 connection, so I can share a flash drive or SSD across the home network. We also use an app to watch videos and stills we recorded on our iPhones, via WiFi. The same Samsung app works with all recent iDevices with WiFi, so long as you have a fast router.

Lots of good ideas coming. I get the sense, regarding the 12.9" Pro is you either love it or you don't at all. From what I can tell, the Pro doesn't really do much more than the iPad Air2, it's just a larger screen and has a faster processor, and I'm thinking of trying to preserve my vision as much as possible. I'll no doubt be saving up for a 256 gig 12.9" iPad Pro. Spendy? Yes, but what are my eyes worth?

I'm not sure I would want to hold that much weight for very long. My iPad Air II is heavy enough after a while. Otherwise I'm sure it is a nice machine. I did suggest a 27" screen iPad to Apple. It would strap to your arm and I called it maxiPad!

Best,

I have the IPAD PRO 12.5 128 GIG .. $1,200 .. I also have 3 other smaller IPads .. including air ...love all of them ....However .., that being said ... I use my IPad Pro 10 times a day .. I have a 15" MacBook Pro .. absolutely love it .. I store photos on all three devices as well as back up on a 3 terabyte lightening bolt external as well as I retain all my SD and CF camera cards .... expensive ... keeping all your Pro cards ... I don't reformat ... I just replace with a new one and put the old SD or CF in storage ...anyway I am covered for back up of all my photos ...oh did I mention I also put my good stuff on Flash Drives as well ... so I am backed up 4 ways to Sunday ...

Getting back to the IPAD 12.5 inch Pro .. get it ..., get it now ... the most gig you can ... I often use post editing on the fly when I'm in the field with the Big IPad .., I carry it in my camera back pack .. I use 2 different adaptures so I can download and edit both CF AND SD camera cards ...on the fly and in the field or Hotel room ...

I used to struggle with the smaller IPADS ...., not any more ....once I started to use the 12.5 " ... I was hooked .. I shoot .take a shot or shots .. seconds later ..I put the camera card in the IPAD PRO and see my shots ... put the camera card back in the camera and continue shooting ...it's an excelland tool ...

Most if not all of my shots that I send to the Hog ..., were off my camera card direct to the 12.5" IPAD PRO ..edited on same .., PS EXPRESS or another .. then posted ..

Many times I will take pictures using the IPAD PRO 12.5 while hiking as It stays in my camera back pack .and is easy to pull out ....., I use my IPHONE 6plus 128 to hotspot wifi to the pad .. download and mail the shot I just took with the Nikon D810 ......, so yes .., The IPAD PRO 12.5 will work wonders for you.., out on the trail or in your living room as I am now ...

This post was done on my IPAD PRO ... GOOD LUCK ..!

Thank you for that insightful review.

I, too, have given thought to going out, taking pictures, downloading what I want to keep, and labeling and storing the SD cards. So long as I don't get the huge capacity ones, they're fairly cheap, so I can buy them, probably by the box!!

It IS compatible with the Apple Pencil, and it runs pro apps that can't run on lesser-than-Pro iPads... because they require the Pencil.

Looks like I was wrong. I you can connect an iPad to a larger monitor.

http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202044

So that is an option for you if you are using it mostly at home.
