Figuring out read topics/posts

I am trying to figure out how to mark the forum as "read". I find it difficult to figure out what I have seen or not seen.

I have looked around but can't find a way. Maybe looking on the wrong places.

BigBear Loc: Northern CT

To the left of the topic it either says 'New topic' or 'New posts'.
New topic means you haven't read it.
New post means someone has posted to the topic after you read it.
