I am going to attend the performance on New Year's Eve. My question is, do they allow flash pictures. I can't find the answer. Thanks in advance.

I did call, and the answer I got was, "yes we let you use flash". I don't think the CSR either didn't know what I was talking about or didn't really know the answer. I can't believe that the flashes would scare the horses.

It is great that you called to ask. I shoot horse events and use of flash is always a concern. The horses that perform regularly get used to flashes, just due to the various cellphones trying to capture images. So, I would expect no problems for you. Enjoy!

Lets keep in mind that a flash is only good for 20-30 feet so if your on the floor great, otherwise forget the flash and boost the ISO.

I agree, but only in reference to the pop-up flash on the camera. Most other flash units have much more power and better range. And, since it is a theater of sorts, the normal lighting is generally pretty good to start with. Some of the arenas we've been in are quite dark. Those are troublesome without a good flash (or, multiple) unit. Have fun!

Regardless, most in-camera flash has limited effective range. (It falls off with the square of the distance.) Find out what that effective range is for your camera. If you can't find out, assume that it is 20 ft.

If I were you I would prepare for either scenario. If you can use flash great, but if you get asked not to, which can happen, then you can just change modes.
Also, if you use flash you will be modifying the light so it won't capture the same atmosphere created by the event lighting. Another factor, is that even if they do allow flash, if someone is trying to video the event it will likely have an adverse effect on their work.

If you are going to Times Square on New Years Eve, be sure to dress warmly, watch your camera, and apparently you should consider a stadium buddy personal pee bag. There will be no where to 'go', I am told.

The stadium lighting is excellent - except for photos of your group, I don't think you will want or need to use your flash.

Then you've never been on a horse when a flash was used. They don't allow flashes in Myrtle Beach Medievale Times, was there last night.

I didn't use flash when we went last summer, here is an example 1/60, 120mm, f4, ISO 2800. This is from the top row of the seats.
