I belong to two group, and I take pictures of them occasionally. I post them on Google Photos and sent the members links to see them. The only people who can see the pictures are the ones who get those links. Of course, the Russian hackers can see anything they want.

We don't know if they are Russian! STOP sending false news stories.

Don't know about you but I'd like to think we never have to look at another gap toothed little brat and be expected to say nice things!

I'm careful too. I usually post on one of my Shutterfly sites. My Privacy settings do not allow editing, downloading, just viewing.

Have we really become this paranoid? With this kind of thinking, kids should never be allowed outside the house. I'm so glad I grew up in the 50s and 60s.

Yes we have. And actually many kids are not allowed out of the house except to supervised activities. When I was 5 or 6 I left the house first thing Saturday morning, roamed the neighborhood with other kids, explored vacant lots, got into fights, got home dirty at dinnertime. My Mom would ask if I had fun. I always said yes. I was also a latch key kid, got on and off the school bus on my own and waited in our apartment for my Mom to get home from work. If I stayed home sick, I took care of myself. After the 5th grade we were allowed to take public transportation instead of the school bus. A different world.

I grew up on a farm in the '50's and '60's. Never knew what a locked door was. Never took the keys out of any vehicle. To this day I have no paranoia about my own safety and I don't subscribe to paranoia about kids, but common sense and a realistic understanding of the dangers that do exist for kids is certainly wise, IMO. BTW, the weirdos and perverts were there 50-60 yrs ago. We just rarely heard about them. People just didn't talk about those kinds of things back then and a lot of kids paid the price in one way or another.

I grew up in the 50-60's. Like lfinger, farm kid. Reality check, I now do volunteer work in prison and jails. We only see the tip of iceberg.

I guess it depends on socio economic status more than anything. Some people live in high crime areas and criminals are their reality on a daily basis. Others go a lifetime without ever having an encounter with violent crime. In 70 years I have never personally known anyone who was a victim of violent crime. My knowledge of it is strictly from TV. Back in the 50's and 60's it just wasn't reported unless it was truly exceptional like a serial killer. Back in the mid 60's we were friends with a person who died in an accident and asked the police why it wasn't in the papers. We were told that only a small fraction of the daily deaths ever got reported in the newspaper.

I grew up in the 40's & 50's, small town in NJ and did not lock doors either. Left the house in the AM, returned for lunch, back out until supper, returned, back out until dark and beyond. It's sad to see how world is today. Lots of fear. Little trust.

Errr...

I was born (and did not grow up) in a country where my mom kept a gun handy. It was civil war then and my parents were colonialists... My mom was paranoid over home invasion all her life.

Personally I was robbed at gun point in 1975, in Paris.

I have not encountered anything else since despite living in Detroit and working in the inner city. I do not even know anyone who took drugs!!!

Guy I go to lunch every week says there are gangs all over the area to 'support' the prisoners in the nearby state prison where he works. He sees the signs, I do not. I must be naive, innocent or simply an idiot for not seeing them...
My cars (older) are unlocked (one does not even have one!!!). The deterrent is simple: Stick shift. I often forget to lock the house when going out, even for a few days. My wife on the other hand locks everything even when she is inside!!!

Your concern should be commended. Let the parents of the children in question decide if you may post specific images of their children on open public sites.

I restrict any posts like that to certain groups... in this case to family only and I ask them not to repost anywhere else.
