...was just curious to see if I had any nearby neighbors on here.

Trying to find a house I can afford in Breaux Bridge or Morgan City/Berwick area.
Got to get away from all this d**** traffic around Baton Rouge/Denham Springs/ Walker. Crime seems to be worse, too.

After Hurricane Katrina and a couple of others, I think half of south Louisiana moved up here.

I'm waiting for the day I won't have to come back across Henderson Swamp to come home.
Not sure why people seem to really get stupid on that stretch of Interstate 10.
If there is a wreck you have no place to go unless you are at the Whiskey Bay or Butte LaRose exit.

I feel your pain. I don't have to drive that stretch too often, but I dread it when I do. Hope you find a place. I live in Ragley apx 15 mi. north of Lake Charles. This area is growing by leaps and bounds. I used to live in "the country" but now I don't. Good luck.

Louisiana has always had roads that were poorly constructed and maintained. The influx into the I-10 corridor since Katrina of new people has made the situation worse. There are lots of factors that keep roads inadequate, but poor basic design and lack of money spent on maintenance are two large ones. My area has seen a huge increase in population in the last 8-10 years and improvements to address the growth have been hampered by poor resurfacing and foundation repair. Our state has seen much money wasted out of inadequate funding to start with. It all might improve if folks demand that it does. Sadly, the budgets wont improve any time soon, but we can point out the defects and the obvious waste and hope for improvement in those areas. It might help. Nothing is going to improve much any time soon but its been bad for a long time and we havent demanded much improvement. Maybe if we start by asking 'what can I do to help the people who plan and maintain our road system?' we might turn a corner and make something happen to all of our benefit.

It's not that Louisiana's infrastructure is poorly constructed or maintained. Building roads and highways across Louisiana's swamp land have been an engineers nightmare. They have used everything from clam shells to willow matts deep below the roads surfaces to try and create a subsurface foundation but it's like building a road over jello, that's why they started building high rise bridge type highway's across much of the low lands.

I live near Walker in Livingston parish. Have lived in this area all my live, in my present location since 1966. Bought this place with 10 acres when it was definitely all real country, woods all around. Now subdivisions all around and crazy traffic! If I were younger and didn't have all my family in the area I would probably relocate to a much less populated area. I do like the Lafayette-Breaux Bridge area myself, away from the cities.

Sir, you are entitled to your opinion, but not your own facts. I do not wish to have any sort of debate with you or anyone else on this subject, but I have lived here in Louisiana for over 70 years and have witnessed many things, including all I stated before. I stand by my statement.

I live in Hammond and commuted to my job in New Orleans across the Manchac swamp on U.S. Highway 51. I'm 71 and in my lifetime I used three different roads across that swamp and the only one that haven't fallen apart in no time is the high rise bridge that spans the entire distance from Ponchatoula to Kenner!

Everywhere you go there is a stretch of interstate that is filled with stupid people. We had them in Cincinnati, Knoxville has them and Chattanooga has them. Not to mention the state of Florida. "Everywhere you go, there they are."

I thought it might have been swamp gas or maybe a rogarou.

I seem to see many more accidents on I-10 above Henderson Swamp than the raised stretch between Hammond and New Orleans.

It's just a guess on my part !

In my area, we call it NASCAR 10. ;-) I have not seen any road built in this silt and marsh land that created Louisiana between the Mississippi and Sabine. Even the new road they built from Leeville to Port Fourchon is built on pilings as the Basin and 10 near Lake Pontchartrain. But then I've traveled the North also and the frost heaves play heck with those also but at least they don't keep sinking. LOL! So much farm land in my area ( Jennings ) being sold and housing projects coming up.

I've got relatives in Gonzales. Have been there all their life (we're in our 60s- 70s). None have left so it must be a fairly nice place to live. They a 500-year flood there not too long ago, but other than that, OK, at least for that part of the states (I live in California). As far as 'stupid drivers' go, they're everywhere! Even with a BIG hammer, you can't fix STUPID!
