I make napkin holders from wooden, western stirrups and paint a horse on each side and nothing sounds better than windchimes made from horse shoes. Even little pony shoes make a neat sound.

I too used a large bottom wood stirrup --laying the napkins inside and painted on the sides of the wood!! the aluminum race shoes sound great!!

Several years ago there was a gravel road that went past a place that had a couple of horses. I talked to the owner of the place occasionally and he said it was okay to stop and give the horses an apple from time to time. They got to know me well enough that they'd watch for me when I'd go for my walk. Well progress came along and it's all asphalt and buildings now. Since then I read a quote, "The outside of a horse is good for the inside of a man." I believe that.

Imaginist, what a shame, asphalt just can't compare to green pastures. I think it was Winston Churchill who said that phrase, something about the outside of a horse.......
in any case, absolutely true. Beautiful creatures. I don't know anyone that doesn't like to look at them.

In my younger years I dated a farrier that also made jewelry from horseshoe nails. I agree there's nothing like the smell of horses, freshly cleaned stables, good hay.
