I have a Nikon D3300 and want to know if it is practical and doable to transfer my images from my D3300 to my Nexus smartphone or Nexus pad so I can share them Instagram. Would like to do it with a hardwired connection

I don't know how to hardwire it, but what I do is email the image to myself and then save the image from the email (iPhone 6s Plus and gmail). It takes a little effort, but it works great. Some phones are also capable of transferring from the SD card to the phone with an adapter (again I can do this with an iPhone).

If your Nexus phone has a microchip it can be done very easily use a microchip on your camera replace your microchip on your Nexus with that chip and then you can download the pictures onto it make sure to tell your phone that you are removing your card otherwise you will erase all the images you have on your old microchip.

I would search for a dingle type adaptor with a slot for the card in your camera. I have an adaptor for an iPhone/iPad with a couple of card slots and when we travel I do a daily backup of my cameras on my iPad.

Actually fairly easy for most phones and pads. (I don't know the Nexus, but assume its an android with Wifi capabilities.) A usb port will tie the phone to your computer. The computer will see it as another storage resource and you can just copy it over into the DCIM folder. Alternatively, buy a Toshiba or EyeFi card. Use that in the camera and it will be done automatically. (I just did this for both my daughters who have DSLRs but like to share from their phones.) My Sony a6300 (and a6000) also has this functionality built-in.

Most Android devices, tablets or phones, unlike idevices, have the OTG (on the go) function which can receive USB inputs using a simple inexpensive non electronic adaptor which has a Micro USB plug for the tablet or phone on one end and a female fullsize USB jack on the other end. Again unlike iDevices you can plug in a USB mouse, USB keyboard, USB flash drive (stick), external harddrives and of course the USB cable from the camera. There are limitations on how much current they will source to the USB device which limits their use with USB flash drives unless a powered USB Hub is used. Of course cameras work fine. The link to a such an adaptor is shown below. You also need to install a free File Manager like Astro File Manager or OL File Manager from the Google Play Store. You should make a folder in the tablet or phone to load the pictures into and from for export into Facebook. If you aren't familiar with working with files and folders in a computer or your Phone and can't get help this method isn't for you.
