Once you configure back button focus, and use it to the difference you will be accustomed to using it, you will be amazed at the difference, and yes if you hand you camera to someone else and they look at the image without using back button focus in live view they might decide it's blurred or out of focus the end results will amaze you, it has become such an automatic move for me it is hard not to use it.

I agree. I love it, the wife hates it. My camera is set for BBF and I removed BBF from hers. (I love it that way as now she doesn't grab my camera for shots). When she does use my camera, she forgets to focus.

My camera of camera seldom leaves my hands save, I might let someone hold to for a moment to get a quick preview of a shot I took. I too am so careful about handing my camera to someone else, even if they might consider them well versed in handling cameras. I am self insured, and I they might decide to explore it might easily erase or delete an entire shoot

From the comments it appears that switching to Auto turns off BBF on Canons but not on Nikons.

A photography teacher was recently gently pushing BBF. I did not follow through but you have inspired me. I am going to give it a serious try.
