Use Old Lenses on New Mirrorless Cameras

Yes, I also use old glass on my mirrorless cameras. I have m4/3 cameras and a Sony A7r full frame camera. I have a lot of Canon FD lenses, so for those I use the best adapters that I can afford, since I use those lenses the most. Novoflex and Ciecio 7 make the best adapters for m4/3 to Canon FD and Sony e-mount to Canon FD. I also have a few Nikkor lenses, and for those I use an inexpensive Fotodiox adapter. I like that one, because I can take it apart and insert shims to get infinity focus. I use a dial indicator to check the front and rear of the adapters for parallelism. The Novoflex and Ciecio 7 are the best by far of any of them, but you get what you pay for.
The real reason those cheap adapters don't focus to infinity correctly is to keep the cost down. I do find it amusing that someone thinks that temperature variations are going to cause enough of a change in the dimensions of an adapter to mess up your images. Well, if you're taking pictures at over 200 degrees or -200 degrees, maybe that could happen. Temperature extremes like that will also cause dimension changes to your camera. Not to mention what they'll do to you. Also, keep in mind that every manufactured item has tolerances, including camera lens mounts, and those tolerances are typically more than microns, more like .01 mm not .000001 mm. If camera tolerances were in microns, only the government could afford cameras.

I use Canon FD & EF, Pentax, Minolta, old Tamron, old Sigma, M42, T2 and most any glass I can acquire using adapters on my Sony A7 cameras. Most work; maybe not well but they work.

My experience is only with Fotodiox adapters for C/Y Zeiss lenses to m4/3. I have found they throw off the focus registration a bit so that the scale on the barrel of the lens is useless for just quickly trying to set the lens for zone focusing. Otherwise, no problem.

I am in error. The C/Y to m43 adapters I have are by Fotasy, not Fotodiox. So I have maligned Fotodiox needlessly. Sorry for that.

Jerry, when I bought my X-T1 I also bought an adapter so I could use my Macro. This set up works fine.

I bought a used GX1 panasonic so that I could use some of my old lens. I bought a 14-42, the better of the lot of 14-42s and it is not as sharp as my old lens but it does have auto focus. I have a magnifying hood coming to aid manual focus and was going to stick my hood for hassleblad on but will be able to sell it now. I have never had auto focus or zoom until digital so I am not missing much.
