Has anyone jumped into this field. The Drone cameras are getting better and much easier to use. These coupled with good drones provide an interesting environment for interesting photos. The cameras are getting better and easier to use 1080, 4K, 13mp. A couple of the better drones are from DJI and YUNEEC.

I work in video production. I don't fly drones myself, but work with those that do. Stay with DJI. You can't go wrong with a Phantom. The new Mavic is just amazing. And if cost is not an object, the Inspire is best in class.

Since the Mavic and the Phantom 4 have been introduced, I'm seeing quite a few bargains on used Phantoms out there.

There is a member in Australia that has posted numerous drone photos. You may want to contact him or check his photos. You can find him here:

DJI is the largest company but their service record is abysmal. It is virtually impossible to get service since they have no facility other than in China

I had a Phantom3 standard. Just after 6 months I had a problem doing a software upgrade which was needed. It would not finish the upgrade. I called DJI, they said to return it and provided postage. They then told me it had a faulty wifi card and the replacement cost was $125. The warranty was only 6 months. I had purchased it from Sams club so I said just return it as is. Sams refunded my money. The warranty is now one year so I bought a new one from Sams, also purchased the extended warranty from them. The new one appears to be working better.

Hi. I fly radio controlled airplanes and there are plenty of folks in my club who photo and video from drones. I'd suggest yo contact the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) (www.modelaircraft.org) and find a club near you in NY. Just go there on a non-windy, non-rainy weekend day and you're bound to find some folks flying drones. They will help, and train you to do your self if you want. Good luck.

I've had a DJI Phantom 2 Vision+ for about 2-1/2 years. Because I live in the city, I'm a park flyer for the most part, so my photos do not match those you see online. But the camera and the flight characteristics are phenomenal, and mine is two generations old. When hovering and shouting video towards the ground, it looks like a single image until something moves on the ground.

There are third party apps, such as Litchi, that really help take some great photos and videos. Newer versions, such as the DJI Phantom 4 Pro and Mavic have superior specs and features to my Phantom 2. Collision avoidance is one key feature. I understand that the Mavic does not have as good of camera as the Phantom 4, but if you are a hiker, you sure would want to give this model a long look.

All that being said, these are complicated systems, and to fly them effectively and safely you need to understand how they work and treat them as such. Crashing your $1400 eye in the sky, because you did not something right would not be good.

Although my P2V+ is still working fine, I am really trying to hold back buying a Phantom 4 Pro. :-)
