Time off during the holidays allowed me to go through my portfolio and review some of my photos from past years. I found these photos from NASCAR I took at Dover Downs from years past. This was the first time I had the opportunity to photograph a NASCAR race. With my pass I had free reign to photograph the NASCAR race and drivers. I had the pleasure to photograph Dale Earnhart and other drivers as they were preparing to race. Although I was not a NASCAR fan, but to have the opportunity to photograph these extraordinary and professional drivers was a honor and pleasure. I wanted to share these photos with my fellow photographers.

Those are nice shots! Love the first one with the collection of former drivers. What year did you take these?

Great images. You were very fortunate to have the opportunity to shoot Dale Earnhart.

Nice photos! And, of my favorite driver, too! Even though you were not a fan, you got some great shots. Thanks for sharing them here! 👍😎👍

I shot one race in Pocono, unforgettable experience! Met a rookie driver during practice rounds the day before the race, got photos of him messing up on the far turn. Race day, saw an older, retired driver walking toward me from the pits of his son, who was racing that day. Didn't even have time to bring up my camera, but stuck my elbow out so I could whack him a bit as he sauntered on, wearing his black cowboy hat and dark sunglasses. Now, I can tell my grandchildren I met Jeff Gordon in his rookie year, and bumped into Richard Petty in the pits...

Thank you...Hmmm..I'll have to look at my original for the actual date. I know it was at Dover Downs in Delaware, one of two races at Dover Downs.
I will get back to you with a date.

Took NASCAR quite awhile to figure it out..... "Finally got it rite. . . "
Been watching events since 1948. Sunday afternoons. Large field, Menominee, Mich.
$ .10 a ticket. Rule #1: All drivers must wear football helmet. #2. All vehicles MUST have large hook on dashboard! Why? The vehicle [mostly fords and chev} raced in 2nd gear.
Think of letter "H". 2nd. gear was in top of right line. If U didn't have a hook on dash board... the minute U took foot off gas pedal, the gear shift would fall out of 2nd. gear position. . . .

GREAT...I shot NASCAR for 7 years at Dover, Delaware. It was an interesting experience as you know. It was colorful and fun.
I learned how to shoot the cars from the infield going around the track. It took a while to learn but it paid off in the end. A trick I learned how to shoot the cars when they were in the pit changing the tires. I put my camera with a fast 24mm NIKKOR lens with a cable release on a monopod, extended it out in front of the car ( not to close obviously..lol) and fired the camera. The shots came out great.
I also extended monopod and shot from above for a different perspective.
I did meet Tony Stewart when he first started NASCAR.He actually let me sit in his car before his time trial.

Since '48? That's cool! Then you would most definitely remember Junie Donlavey - #90. I was his race team chaplain for the last 13 years before the shop closed up. I got that gig through a relationship with Motor Racing Outreach.

My son shoots Nascar and loves doing it. He has photos of several drivers, their crews and even celebrities; and of course the cars zipping around the track.
