no one mentioned the micro fiber cloths. They work well also no liquid required. A brushing before rubbing with the cloth should remove any grit., use the cloth lightly and it should handle your needs.

Right. That's the standard for lens cleaning - basically alcohol on a cloth.

Are you sure that the solution is alcohol?
Not sure that alcohol isn't bad for the coating.

If you want to do it without liquids, look at LensPen.

A good product at about $10 in WalMart.

I use the lens cleaning solution that i get with my glasses and a microfiber cloth. Blow the dust off first, lightly spray on cleaning solution and wipe from the center out. Worked for me every time without scratching expensive Lenses (or my expensive glasses).

Do you spray the cleaner on the cloth or on the lens? Liquids sprayed on a lens can trickle down and degrade the sealant between the lens glass and body.

I ruined a pair of coated eyeglass lenses using the Zeiss cleaning wipes. The lenses were under warranty and replaced at $20 per lens. I asked the seller prior to use if it would be safe to use the Zeiss wipes on my glasses and was told yes. The eyewear retailer explained later that the Zeiss wipes are an excellent product, but should not be used for coated eyeglass lenses. However, it is just fine to use them on sunglasses.

Did the retailer offer advice on what would be a satisfactory substitute for the wipes? I suppose it would recommend the eyeglass cleaning fluids commonly found in opticians' stores. But what kind of tissue would be suitable, I wonder.
