Looking for camera divorce lawyer - I am divorcing my D5300 and D7200 - due to irreconcilable differences between Nikon and GPS. I do not know of what is the real reason - incompetence or greed? There is no full frame camera with GPS and "ad on" GPS unit is "piece of art" from China - in plain language - piece of trash!!! It quit on me in 2 months after warranty run out. Shame on you - Nikon designers. Another "beef" I have with Nikon is battery charger. Is it really that difficult to have universal charger to fit all Nikon's batteries? After visiting Canon tent in Albuquerque International balloon Fiesta - I have left infected with G.A.S. so strong - thanks Got for B&H. 7D Mark2 with 24-70 f4 is way too cool !!! As soon as 6D will get "macho" designation (Mark2) I will ad it to my Tenba with 16-35 f4. I am flowers and landscaping vistas guy - that will serve me well. Did You know, that You can be considered "armed and dangerous" just having your Bogen tripod on your shoulder? 2 Suburban loads of agents almost arrested me for having "rifle" in National Park.(White Sand National Park) Now - I am letting park Rangers to know that I will be wandering off the standard "touristy" spots with my cameras and tripod "rifle" on my shoulder. (it was pretty scary experience).

I know what you mean! A similar thing happen to me, a while back when taking pictures for one of the photo challenges. I was at a waste treatment plant which overlooks a small airport which had a runway. I was taking pictures with a small telephoto (55-300mm Nikon) from the parking lot overlooking the runway.

I was a former employee of the Waste Treatment Plant, now retired, so I knew the plant personnel well.

About 2 weeks later I got a visit from two FBI investigators. They came to my home saying they were investigating a suspicious behaviour complaint at an airport. Of course I didn't remember being there. Then they added the detail of being near a waste treatment plant. I promptly explained that I was taking pictures for a Photo Contest, even volunteering the name of the website, and even to show them the pictures I was taking that day.
No bamboo under the finger nails needed!

It can be rough out there taking pictures!!

I think you're just looking for an excuse, however silly, to buy new camera gear, jmikulas. What did you do in all the years before there were cameras available with built-in GPS tracking? I'm not saying GPS feature is useless, but it certainly is not essential.

First, the true Nikon GPS made for the D1-D5 series, the D500, D7xx and the D8xx cameras has been working for me for over 10 years without fail. This has the 10 pin plug.

Also as an FYI, the new Hasselblad X1D has built in GPS.

There are also several iPhone apps that can give yo GPS tracking, but I find them a bit clumsy to use.

I have a 7DII and never have it on. It burns up the batteries. I guess if there is a situation in which in need it I can turn it on, but I can't think of one.

The new Pentax K1 has built in GPS and it is a full frame digital sensor camera with many other very nice features.

Photography is part of my main hobby - which is discovering rare plants in SW deserts. There are hobbyist in Germany and Austria sharing the same crazy passion (per my wife). Before GPS - we were exchanging detailed directions and excerpts from maps. Of course - having new photo gear is part of enjoyment.

I am an old fashion redneck - new technology bites me - that is eliminating use of the new "stuff". Hassy is out of my price range. Main attraction was the Canon 24-70 f4 - macro function at 70mm is absolutely cool.

I have looked at Pentax K1 - it is pretty impressive - maybe I should have done more research before I have "jumped" to Canon. The main attractions to me are Canon L lenses.

Welcome to Satan's hole, New Mexico. If you have lived here for any amount of time, you know it's impossible tyo get lawyer for anything in New Mexico and that there is no justice. Not surprised you had such an idiotic encounter with a ranger either; it's the norm.
