shooting on a kayak is not as easy as I thought it would be. lol!

Great idea! I'm glad it's working out for you. I've toyed with the idea of getting a kayak for nature photography, but my balance isn't great, I'm a lousy swimmer, and doubt I'd be able to lift one onto and off a roof rack and get it into and out of the water by myself. I haven't seen one (other than inflatable or origami-like foldable) that would fit in my Prius. I guess I should get a two-seater and find a buddy to go with me.

A 2 seater would be fun lundy. I like kayaking, but I also enjoy walking along the shore looking for shots. I looked at your zoo shots...they are awesome!

Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed my zoo photos, merrytexan. I also occasionally walk the shore in search of potential photo subjects.

You may not have to get him away from the golf course. A lot of the kayak manufactures make outriggers for their products. They just bolt on. You can do it yourself.

I will have to Google outrigger. I'd still need help getting it off the truck and in the water. Thank you for the suggestion lovitlots! I will check it out.

that is what i need to do...put my paddle on a leash. can you show me a picture of how you did that?
thank you!

A bit late but better late than never !
Here are a few photos showing details of the leash mount and the motor mount.
The first image shows where I drilled a hole for the leash mount. (the end of the leash has a brass loop)

The second image shows the underside of the hatch cover and how I used a plastic washer and a sliver of plastic to hold the leash in place. I jammed that little piece of plastic in real tight and it hasn't come loose at all.

In the third image is another one of my kayaks showing a stainless steel eye bolt and a plastic washer that I tied the end of the leash to. This is on the front bulkhead wall just in front of where you put your feet. There is another plastic washer and a stainless steel nut holding that on.

The fourth image shows the rear part of the anchor trolley and the motor mounting plate and how the plate is attached to the stern of the kayak.

The fifth image is my motorized kayak at a dock on a lake in northwest Montana. I hope these pictures help.

Thank you for the shots...I will show them to my husband...it would be great to not have to worry about losing my paddle. I like your kayak...do you fish with all 3 poles at once?

I only fish with 1 or 2 poles at once. In Montana where I live I can only fish with two poles at once or I would risk getting a ticket or perhaps losing all my gear ! The last few years I spent more time looking for potential photos than actually fishing.

One thing that I wanted to mention, is that I have two 33 amp sealed gel batteries that are kept in the bottom of the boat. They are in the main hatch of my kayak and having them down there provides ballast so the weight of the batteries actually provides more stability. The weight of the lower part of the motor also provides stability so between the batteries and the motor it'e very hard to tip it over. I've had that boat through class 3 rapids with no problem.
