Canon A-1 in the mid 70's. Started with making contact prints then bought an enlarger (A Zenit) that could fold into it's own case since I had no room for a perminant darkroom. Developed my own film (B&W). Have always loved Photography.

Baby Brownie. Shot 127 film. I still have it. Got it as a sixth grader. Shot monochrome since we couldn't afford color then. Always wanted to photograph, always will. Before I got it I played with my mother's 116 Autographic Kodak. Built like a little view camera. Film was expensive so I rigged up a piece of frosted plastic as a screen and pretended to take pictures with the back open and a black cloth over my at head, just like a little Ansel, I guess. The gene was there!

Thank you.

It looks like a Kodak "35" (non-rangefinder model.) They were made from 1938 through WW2 (Kodak produced military versions also). I believe it was Kodaks first US made 35mm. (original Retinas were German made.

My first camera in the 1950's was an Ansco. It used 620 film. I used to develop some and print with a contact printer. First 35mm was a Kodak Signet. First SLR was Canon Ftb. First DSLR was Nikon D70S.
Cameras I owned, Canon Pelix, Canon AE-1. Canon A1, Canon T70, Canon T90, Canonet GIII QL17 (still have),
Canon S70, Nikon P7700 (which I currently use along with Sony A850)

My real interest in photography was after having kids. As a child growing up I had a terrible fear of storms. To the point of getting sick. So i had to pull up my big girl panties and be brave so my fear did not show. I didn't want my kids to be frightened. I would let them use the camera and we would drive around to get pictures of storms. It worked now we all have fun taking pictures and the fear is no longer just respect for the weather.

I started photography with the birth of my son in 1976.
First camera was a Konica TC SLR.
First DSLR was a Konica-Minolta A200 as I recall.
I later went to a D90, and then a D5300.

My first was a Brownie Hawkeye. Then a Contax rangefinder. Next came the Minolta SR-1 and later, Minolta Maxxum 7000s.
First almost-sort-of-kinda DSLR was Kodak P880. First real DSLR was Sony a300, which became a paperweight due to a premature death.
Now use Sony a700 with the Kodak as a backup. (Although the Kodak lacks some features and has a top ISO of 400,
it makes great images with its Schneider lens in optimal shooting conditions.) >>>Alan

I fell in love with photography in high school. The camera we used was a brand new Olympus Pen-F. I remember the teacher, Mr. Dawson, had to take a Librium every time he let us take it out on the school grounds to shoot our assignments. However, what I truly loved was the darkroom -- so instead of getting a job and saving my money to buy a good camera of my own, I saved up to buy an enlarger for my diy darkroom. It was a beauty -- a well-used Omega D2. At that time, taking a picture was just a pretext to get a chance to go into the darkroom.

But to answer the question -- my first "real" camera was a Minolta XD 11, the world's first camera with aperture and shutter priority. Still have it-- works great.

When young, perhaps 11 or 12, I remember how cool it was to see those distant things in a photo clearly. Of course, it turns out I was near-sighted. But that was what got me started.

First, Brownie Hawkeye, "flashfun" model I think, followed soon after by my dad's hand-me-down Duraflex IV, which carried me into my late teens. Things got serious when he handed down the Argus C3 "brick", which took great images for years, and was a good teacher of all things photographic, followed by decades of reliable service from a Minolta SRT 101. Still looking for the digital camera I like as well as that simple old workhorse.

My 1st camera was a Rollei pre WW2 vintage DLR. Graduated to a Nikon Ftn in college along with a SpeedGraphic 4x5 complete with a wood tripod (hand-me-down from my uncle). DSLRs began with a Nikon D5000, moved up to aD7000 and hope to go to a D7200 soon. Plus still have my lab and Beeseler Dichro enlarger which is an excellent conversation piece but not much more than that
