I live in Council Bluffs Iowa. It's a nice size city. Best Buy closed there only store in CB. I understand if the store isn't making a profit you can't stay in business. But what makes me mad is they sent me a bunch of coupons for stuff at Best Buy. So I thought I would go in and get .some stuff. When I got there the store was closed for good. I was shocked. I get tons of E Mail everyday for there flash sales and so on. I got no notice the store was closed. So I went to Omaha to the next closest Best Buy only to find they are also gone. Again I got no notice they were closed. So kinda mad I went home. I guess it's easy to give discounts for stores that are no longer in busines. I had posted many times I thought it was important to do busines with local stores to keep local jobs. Best Buy doesn't believe in this how can I. They have months later notified me that there opening new stores in Omaha . Only the richest most eleat parts of Omaha. They are also the farthest from were I live. I think the thing that pisses me off the most is I don't understand how a company as big as Best Buy can trash there customers and employees that easy. I wish for a time when we could do busines with people and not shipping charges

I don't think BB is doing very well. Internet sales are really cutting into the brick and mortar retailers.

I know the feeling, so very well. Internet buying has hurt so many local stores, including the Very Locally owned stores. We have a locally owned Ace Hardware near me. They have had to compete with the big box hardware stores, as well as Internet sellers. So my neighbors and I have become determined that we're going to, perhaps, pay a little higher price by buying from our local Ace Hardware. The owner has told me he's doing fine with traffic. I'm hoping everything continues that way.

Internet sales has made it hard on locals, including stores like Best Buy. I don't like the phrase "it's part of the times", but it does explain what happened to your Best Buy stores.

Margins are so thin on electronics I'm surprised any of the electronics stores can stay in business and compete with the internet. The margin problem is why you don't see any independent electronic retailers left. When the big companies eliminated the local distributors and started dealing direct it changed the whole structure of retail.

I believe your coupons are valid online, as well as in the store. Sorry about the BB closing. Prices online, as far I know, are the same as in the store. If you want to purchase electronic items without shipping and tax charges, use some of the NYC based stores, such as Adorama or B & H Photo. Their prices are competitive with Best Buy. They will price match with Best Buy and probably beat them.

Dave O I'm a Neb beef fed husker. All my life. I don't understand your question. Is it so bad to see folks do busines one on one. Or most likely I found somebody that has not ideal of what I'm talking about. All I can say is it's your loss

The BB in our town is destined to go the way of Circuit City if they don't get their act together. The customer service is deplorable at best. Trying to get assistance to find something is a joke most days. If I can't find it on the shelf myself I don't bother, and if it's actually in stock in the store I just order it on line for pickup. Of course that can be a crap shoot too, as things may or may not actually be there.

I would estimate that at least 50% of the items in the weekly ad are not in stock at the local store.

I've had several conversations with the local manager concerning the perception of bad service at this store, but I guess I haven't made my point. There are two stores 45 minutes north and south of us and the service there is markedly different.

BTW I'm an Elite Plus member too, so I do spend bucks there.

I've found that this is not the case here. The prices on the shelves often do not reflect sale prices, so it's best to have an ad or printout of the online price with you.

I was being a bit of a wise guy. Businesses, including big chains, come and go sometimes with warning and sometimes not. Most of the bigger guys and many others conduct business online and are not overly concerned with some locations. Further, and Best Buy has spoke of this, there are many customers who come in to touchy feely and question their sales folks and then go home and purchase online from wherever, certainly not all from Best Buy. This has been a trend for several years.

I purchased a cell phone from BB the Add online had a price match guarantee. I went to the store with a copy of an add with a cheaper price. No problem. They gave me at that price. Now being the dummy that I am I attempted to insert the sim9 card (it needed a plastic adapter to fit) as I was inserting it the card fell out of the adapter. While trying to remove it I bent the pins on the phone. Now it was toast. I got back online to reorder a new one and return the damaged one. The original store that I purchased it from was out of stock, the only phone available was at a store 50 miles away. So I ordered it online for pick up. I again brought the add and was told that they do not price match cell phones. They brought out their flyers that did clearly state no price match on cell phones. I was a little upset and peeved that they wouldn't match the price. I told them that on their website it clearly said price match guarantee. After a little back and forth they did get online and look it up and after some deliberation between the sales people they did match the price. I saved $50.00 but added 100 points to my blood pressure. The next day I returned the damaged phone to a close buy Best Buy for a full refund on that one.

Best Buy is at the bottom of my list of electronics stores. I ONLY buy from them if they are the only store that has it in stock in the stores near me. Their sales people are not well informed, they are unprofessional and are basically just hourly employees. I did purchase an "emergency" graphics accelerator card from them (1GB card for $60) while I waited for my 4gb card to be shipped to me. (It gives me an emergency card in case the card fails in one of my 2 desktops). I went in one day to look at the D610 camera body and the sales person (this was the photo department manager) at first looked down his nose at me and didn't want to show it. Then he tried to move me to a $400 Nikon point and shoot saying that it would do everything that the D610 would do. (Yes, it is Florida, and I was wearing a tee shirt, shorts and slip on shoes so I wasn't dressed as if I could afford an expensive camera) but, you don't treat prospective customers that way. I bought the camera body from Adorama.
Best Buy is my absolute last resort for camera, electronics, etc. I do check to see what they have for music and movies, but I usually end up getting those from Walmart and other options. I typically get computer parts from NewEgg, TigerDirect, and other places (if I can wait). The local TigerDirect closed last spring and now, I have to order from Miami. I also hit Staples and others. I attempted to order the last Star Wars Movie, "The Force Awakens" and their website said that my debit card was no good. So I bought it from Walmart for $2 less and used that same debit card to get it. By the way, Best Buy's Geek Squad cant solve many common computer problems without parts swapping until its fixed. A friend has a computer that had a virus and they replaced the video card, the memory, and were trying to sell him a new processor. He called me, and I told him to have them put the computer back the way it was and bring it to me. He did and it had 7 viruses. I removed the viruses and the computer is fine.

I purchased my 7d from BB, it went bad I was 1500 miles away at Hilton Head, 6 months later,

Took it in the local BB, and walked out with a new 7D.

No, camera store will do that for you, no even B&H.

Those flyers go to many stores, and I have seen BB with their back against the wall, business is hard, paying people to work is hard, it takes a profit,

I like to service at BB, they are far better than 99% of the camera stores out there, and they do pay local sales tax, and wages back to support the community,

Closing a store hurts everyone, including BB and their pride they have real money invested to serve your account, they did not wake up and decide to sell your one item.

They made a commitment, it is too bad the community did not support the local businesses, Taxes and excess cost kills many businesses...as well as Internet stores...

Noting is forever, even Amazon, and B&H..
