Usually, when Nikon does a price drop it means an upgraded camera is coming out. Has anyone heard anything about an upgraded D-500 in the offing?

The D500 was announced in January and released sometime after that. Seems kind of early for a model upgrade. This small price change may just be a business decision in this allegedly soft market.

Nikon has instant rebates from time to time. There's supposed to be another discount period starting on black Friday, November 25. You get a free battery grip with the purchase of a D500 or D810.

Nope. The D750 had a $300 price drop not long after it was introduced, and it's dropped since then.

As an old Nikon sales rep I can tell you that this is typical Nikon marketing. The camera was introduced months ago, those that were going to buy it no matter what have done so, those on the fence will now jump with the price drop. Nikon has done this for as long as I can remember. It is Marketing and nothing more. Nikon usually keeps models for about two years, depending on model, price point, and sales. Then, a new one will come out, and several months later, there will be a price reduction, why November?, cause that's when consumers are primed to purchase. Marketing, that's all it is.

That's not a bad deal, the grip for the 810 ,is over $350 for a Nikon grip.

This is holiday season. Nikon is merely getting a jump on the season in a competitive market. Makes sense to me.

Yes. And they may be having resistance compared to the D7200 with price and some design choices such as no flash and pricey card slot. They probably got all the pro sports photographers right off.

I was turned off by the weight so a price drop doesn't entice me. Still waiting their mirrorless APS-C. I see Canon has a nice M3 and new M5 coming soon. Don't know why Nikon got stuck on their small sensor lines.

With the buying season upon us and new offerings from Sony, Apple and others being released soon smart move to drop prices. As soon as one buys anything electronic, as soon as you get it home a new model is announced or so it seems. Point is see something you always wanted at a reasonable price grab it.

Thanks for the tip, CO. That might be worth waiting for since the battery grips are around $450.
