Vietnam Veterans Memorial

On a recent trip to New Mexico, my husband and I stopped at the memorial. Me for the second time. It was started privately by Dr and Mrs. Westphall in 1968 a few short months after their son was killed in Vietnam. They didn't want him or his comrades to be forgotten. Over the years it has evolved into a well recognized memorial and now the maintenance and docent duties are partnered with The David Westphall Veterans Foundation and New Mexico State Parks.
Today the visitors center houses over 2,000 photographs of individuals killed in action during the Vietnam War, a library for research and a small but impressive museum. Inside the memorial is a small chapel that is never closed. Events are held throughout the year to honor those who served in Vietnam.
If you are ever in New Mexico - it is definitely worth a stop in Angel Fire, New Mexico. When I was there this time the wind was really blowing, so photos not as sharp as they could be.

Memorial bricks can be purchased with the veterans name and years of service. Funds help with the maintenance.

That is one beautiful memorial. A very nice tribute to the Vietnam soldier.

It's peaceful emotional and beautiful all at the same time. Extraordinary place to visit.

Bob, I have been there twice now and it touches my heart each time. This time with my husband was different, of course, it brought back memories for him.
The architecture it self is stunning and the personal story of Dr Westphall that started it to honor this son is so touching.

Sue, I didn't know it either until a couple years ago and took a different highway to Taos, NM. It is just outstanding in that high mountain area. Visited twice now and always gets to me. Thanks for visiting.
