Interesting. I too am going to India shortly and specifically to the Pushkar Camel Fair and other points (I will be in India for 3 1/2 weeks). Are you aware of the Camel Fair? It is very famous and will be going on for about a week and commencing on the 15 of November.

I am aware of the camel fare, unfortunately we will not be able to avail the opportunity since our itinerary is kind of fixed and we will be arriving Rajasthan after the fare . Thanks

I was in India for four weeks last February/March. I visited charitable hospitals and schools which we help support. We went to Kolkata, rural West Bengal, Agra and Delhi. I saw no conditions where any special care needs to be taken to protect a camera.

We will be in Kolkata for few weeks and quite familiar with the "city of joy". I am in agreement with you with regards to camera protection , since we will be there in the winter months.

I loved Kolkata, it is crazy in a delightful way, the noise the traffic and the people were wonderful. We visited a HIV hospice there and a school for orphans. We went on to Durgapur and visited another school and hospital there. From there we went to Sarenga just south of Bankura where we gave practical help at a hospital.

It was an amazing experience and I am totally in love with India, and even more so, it's people.

I plan to return to India in February 2017.

We visited India a few years ago and enjoyed it thoroughly. We ate only in our hotel, or places selected by our tour company and never got sick. My business partner who is from India goes back there every couple of years to visit family, and, of course eats on the economy. He gets diarrhea every time he goes. So, follow your guides' advice and eat nothing, no matter how tempting it looks not recommended by them.

Hello ! I am travelling to India as well and had never heard of the camel fair but it sounds fabulous. However - I believe it ends on the 15th of November ?? I arrive in India on the 15th ! Do you know if there is any continuing or ongoing interest in Pushkar after the 15th ? Thanks ! Mark

Oh, yes, one other piece of advice: There are many water bottle counterfeiters who take old water bottles, fill them with unsafe tap water and reseal them with super glue. Of course, you buy, drink and get sick. Only buy carbonated water in bottles. That is not easy to counterfeit, and is always safe.

The Camel Fair does move south. I cannot remember the name of the town. You can check the internet (Pushkar Camel Fair) as to the schedule. The fair does terminate on the 15th of November with the holy bathing in the lake. I am going in the opposite direction to Jaisalmer where the Thar Desert, sand dunes, camels and silhouettes, sunsets and all of that. Enjoy your trip.

I have been to India numerous times. The only problem of taking landscape photos and doing street photography is you will run out of space on your card. You will find taking photos of people very easy and enjoyable. The camel festival is lots of fun...strike out on your own, do not walk around with a group; you will have more fun and better interaction with the people. I have used both a Nikon D610 and Olympus OM-D. I like the Olympus better because it is lighter and easier to travel with. Take a prime and telephoto lens. Have fun, India is a great place, I cannot wait to return.
