Dear fellow members

We ( me and my wife) will be travelling to Rajasthan for 15 days mostly for sight seeing. I am mostly interested in landscape photography and occasionally street photography . A brief description of Rajasthan , it was a princely state several hundreds years ago . Its palaces and forts are reminders of the many Kingdoms that historically vied for the region. I will be carrying with me my D800 along with 20mm AF-S 1.8, 24-70 mm AF-S 2.8 and 50mm AF-S 1.8 . Please advise if this set up is sufficient taking landscape and some street photography.

"My wife and I" I'm sure she deserves that little bit of respect.

Interesting. I too am going to India shortly and specifically to the Pushkar Camel Fair and other points (I will be in India for 3 1/2 weeks). Are you aware of the Camel Fair? It is very famous and will be going on for about a week and commencing on the 15 of November.

I was in India for four weeks last February/March. I visited charitable hospitals and schools which we help support. We went to Kolkata, rural West Bengal, Agra and Delhi. I saw no conditions where any special care needs to be taken to protect a camera.

1. If you want to do street photography and get photos of people I would think you would want a telephoto to get some nice photos without being intrusive. Also the perspective can be nicer on street scenes such as in the marketplace.

2. If you are staying in an air-conditioned hotel make sure that when you leave with your equipment you have it in something that is air-tight until it warms up. Large zip-lock bags work fine. Otherwise, if it is warm and humid out, moisture will condense on - and in - your equipment.

3. Make absolutely sure that you get the Hepatitis A (not B) vaccine from your physician before you go. One shot gives you 95% protection - a second shot six months later is advised. You get Hep A from food. Also, take along some antibiotic and Imodium for traveler's diarrhea. Generally Cipro 500mg twice a day for three days works. Azithromycin also works.

That sounds like plenty, although a compact as a backup would be a good idea.

I was in northern India in April and May. There was no need for special consideration of my Cannon. Yes, it was incredibly hot but my husband, my camera, and I all survived. I did a little street photography but mainly went to photograph the tigers.

You will have a wonderful time. Be careful of the food even in 5* hotels. Stick with freshly prepared food and avoid salads.

The Pushkar camel fair is a unique event. You will require plenty of cards. If you can, get a luxury tent.

Steve

Thanks for all the info and we find these very helpful . As suggested , I may consider to carry my 70- 300 mm lens. Do not want to carry to much weight, neither one of us are young puppy anymore.
