Ringed Neck Pheasant

I went to check for bear tracks on some land we bought a couple of months ago. There were none today, thank heavens, we had seen many last week. After walking around for awhile, I spotted this pheasant enjoying some grass in a drainage pond on the property. I was thrilled. I have not seen one in the wild since I was a kid, and believe me that was a long time ago. I hope there are more somewhere in those six acres of forest .

The Ringedneck pheasant is not native to the Americas! It was imported from Korea back in the 1800's.

Very nice. Really great capture. What state? We have pheasants here. I used to hunt them many moons ago.

thanks. We are in Rhode Island. I grew up in Massachusetts and used to see them often years ago. Not so anymore so this was a treat.

Very nice shot. Awesome color on that one. Use to dodge them like flies truckin across the plains states but have just recently began seeing them again when traveling that way. Missed some turkeys in florida today no place to get the rig off the road

When I was growing up, a bunch of us would go to South Dakota and see my uncle. We would go pheasant hunting and limit out for everyone.

Excellent shot and focus.
