Thank you Jakebrake, I will certainly check it out. I can use as much help as possible these digital cameras are mind boggeling. A girlfriend took the photo of me. We were out shopping and stopped in a little place to eat. We were daring each other to place personal ads so the photo was taken for that purpose but we chickened out. Thanks for the response I am happy to meet you,oh and my friends call me Sam,bye

You are welcome Sam. Also YouTube is your friend. There are literally thousands upon thousands of photography videos, and I'm sure many on your new camera there.
Best of luck in your new camera, and by all means post some photos. This great group will help you in every aspect of your camera and photography in general. If I might make another book suggestion, try Brian Peterson's 'Understanding Exposure'. This book helped me understand more about taking great photographs than anything I have ever read.

I am a newbie at photography. I was using a Canon power shot until recently. My Dad gave me his Nikon D3200. I am overwhelmed by it but I am using the auto modes and trying to learn. I hope to take a few photos that I can feel comfortable posting here. There are some amazing photographers posting here I hope I can learn from you guys. I am a nurse I work at the local children's hospital and I absolutely love it. I attended the University of Texas at Arlington nursing school. I have one pet Rocky my cat. He has been subjected to my photography efforts and he has been surprisingly patient. I guess that's enough about me ,I hope to meet some of you hedgehogs here. I love that name.

Nothing wrong with the auto mode. As you get more experience you'll learn the rest. Have fun. Ffrom another Fort Worther who's wife is a retired nurse.

I am a fellow Nikon shooter. Your D3200 is a good start in photography. You will naturally have many photographic questions. One UHH section that may help you is Frequently Asked Questions and Answers at http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/s-106-1.html . Start on page four (oldest threads) and just glance at the titles for now. There is no organization to threads, other than dates originally posted. You can return to this section time and again, as questions arise. To place this section on your Home page, just 'subscribe' to section.
