Best news in a very long time. Bob Dylan won the Nobel Prize for Literature. If you read his music as poetry, it is sheer poetry. Been a fan since the early 60's. Don't think twice, it's all right.
I just saw that. He's getting old so I'm glad they recognized him now. Always a great fan of his.
I to am a fan since the 60's, but my wife doesn't like his singing so I don't play him often. I have noticed that on the last couple of CD's that I purchased by him his style has changed.

It must have been a slim year in the literary field.

Dylan was constantly morphing in his life and his work. One of the reasons the Nobel Prize Committee awarded the Nobel Prize to him.

AND how fabulous to be recognized for his "poetry" and by such an august body ! ! !
An interesting choice, considering all the great writers who never received the Nobel prize. Surely they recognized his writing skills, not his singing!
The scientists I know consider the Nobel prizes in physics, medicine and chemistry the least 'political' of the prizes (but not entirely divorced from politics.) The Nobel prize in Economics has largely been a liberal trope. The Nobel Peace prize has too often been something of a political farce. Obama? Really?? (As one commentator put it, he got the prize for 'not being George W. Bush'.)
As recently as a year or two ago, one of the Nobel committee members was quoted as saying that 'Americans are too insular in their writing' to be considered for the Nobel prize in Literature. I guess they got 'used to it'.
Look at the CD "Fallen Angel" this is way different than his other works.

What a great choice! Boberic, you beat me to it - didn't see your post when I posted later (I guess I was too excited). I know this may seem a strange choice to some, but he was the poet of our age - always reinventing himself, always relevant. I heard him first in the early 60s, and while I was surprised at first by his voice, his lyrics spoke to me (and still do) in so many different ways. I've seen him live many times, and he's coming to DPAC in Durham, NC on November 4th, and I intend to be there. I've already specified that Like a Rolling Stone be played at my funeral when I'm gone (along with some Baez, PP&M, and Judy Collins)

I have a friend who wants I Shall Be Released played at his funeral, although the Band's recording rather than Bob's.

Yes, I was glad to see that in the news.

The documentary done about him and the Pink house some time ago was fantastic.

I like Dylan's songs....sung by somebody else. Usually Joan Baez.
