"I brought a D300 with the 18-200 " did you use this camera for the on-water raft shots?

I've wanted to do a raft trip through part of Grand Canyon since college. With that possibility coming closer, I wanted to get some ideas on camera equipment to bring, knowing that we will be wet much of the time. I already have Nikon AW130 but wondered about cameras with better sensors/lenses that would survive without an external case. Some type of bridge camera would be great. I don't want to risk my dslr and lenses. I think majority of shots would be stills with some action videos. One of the river vendors spoke of an "Aquapak"(?) that seems to be a thicker plastic or vinyl bag that can be sealed against water but still allow use of controls and lens zoom. Any other ideas? Thanks!

The new Olympus TG-Tracker might be a possibility. Extremely wide lense (202°, f2.0), 4K video, and one can make up to 8M stills. Lots of "bells and whistles" for $350. Seems to be slightly more rugged that the Olympus tough cameras.

If you like the flexible cases, check out ewa marine, I used them already 40 years ago, they work great!

If your asking Bultaco yes I used it a lot on the raft, but not in the white water.

I bought this and it works great, immerse it, splash it...it doesn't care. I used Agfa Vista 400 in it.

you can buy them for less than $20.00 on Ebay all day long.

Trip hints: The Colorado River peaks around June 15 - good time to go. I liked Adventure Bound out of Grand Junction - they had good equipment, meals, snacks and drinks. Their trip was from Moab to Hite, UT. It took 4 days and 3 nights. Bring lots of mosquito repellent, also Deep Woods Off to clear the area and tent. Beware when you drop trawl to go, you are exposing untreated skin for the mosquitoes to feast on. I came out with the best tan of my life - until I took a shower. Very nice National Parks are real close! Hold on tight!

They don't hold up to much abuse. Metal is better.

The Pelicans do hold up as well (not cheap though).

you can buy a pelican case for $60.00 and up.I bought a 1400 and it holds 2 bodies 2 lens [18 t0 270 zoom and a 50 ] also my extra batts. and cards.I have taken this case and my camera on many w/w rafting trips including 3 times in the Grand canyon.I also take my nicon aw100 which is a w/p camera, on the hikes in the canyon I took a small w/p bag in case we had to wade or swim.the g/c is a beautiful place to take photos take your dlsr. if you use common sense around and on the river you wont have any problem. The ammo cans work well too most of the guides use them all the time. I hope you have a Great time on your trip.

MANY many years ago I took my Leica 3F on that raft trip. I took a gallon freezer bag to make a water shield. Took the retaining ring off the skylight filter, placed the filter against the bottom of the bag and screwed the ring back on. Tight but it fit. Then cut the plastic bag ring out. When the camera wasn't used just zipped it up. When taking pictures I opened it up, placed one hand inside to operate & the other outside for support. Took pictures going through some of the rapids, had to clean some water off the filter a time or two. I had no problems while several other members suffered water problems. Sorry, have not digitized those Kodachromes yet.

Get one of those underwater Point and Soots and secure it firmly to your body or the raft. The photos will be great and when you fall in with the camera, you will not have ruined you camera, in fact you will be able to take pics of the event.
