A few things to consider here. That B52 was originally flow by the grandfathers of current B52 pilots. The strength of the air forces is below the strength of of the Army Air Corps at the beginning of WW2, for which we were totally unprepaired. The Army is also below 1941 strength. The Navy has fewer ships since WW1. We are unable to sustain a major conflict. Our potential enemies are fully aware of our current military unprepairedness. Peace through strength is just not possible when we have deminished strength. Not only that our industrial capability is nowhere the manufacturing ability of the 40's and 50's. It was our industrial manufacturind strength that won WW2. We no longer have that ability. If we are to continue to be the worlds military leader this MUST change.

Over in hundred hrs. An didn't nearly all who they should had. If would have done he should had. We may not be in as much. Of a mess we are in now.

Oh so when Bush Sr. stopped short of Baghdad he was critized for it . But when his son marched into that city the media and even former proponents of that war hit him with a withering barrage of criticism that lasts to this very day .
And by the way , GW Bush was vindicated some months ago . WMD's were found and a program to obtain nuclear material was in place
.
But of course our liberal media won't report that . Bush has an (R) at the end of his name .

Okay, instead of spending 5 billion on one boat just spend 1m arming every merchant vessel, to me it would cover alot more area, and the bad guys wouldn't know which one to attack- pretty sure they would give a wide berth to a carrier and escorts

That's a popular idea, and a lot of thought has gone into it.
In fact, it's being done:

Whew! That's a relief! Now if we can only get a few thousand more next generation fighters, bombers, bombs, and missiles, we'll be almost totally safe. We have to support all these mom and pop operations that are producing our weapons. They are protecting us, so we have to keep throwing money at them.

With all the impressive weapons we have, we haven't won a war since 1945. We have been fighting a losing battle against "improvised" weapons in the middle east.

One of the reasons we haven't won the past few conflicts is that politicians got in the way of winning wars. In WW2 America fought that war to win at any cost. We bombed the living crap out of our enemies, we killed millions of them and we lost a lot of our military fighting men and women. Our goal though was to win at any cost. Now, due to politicians going back and forth, we only PLAY at war. If we seriously wanted to win in the Middle East, with the coalition we have with other countries, and with a leader (we have none now) we could bomb the daylights out of ISIS. Would there be collateral damage just like in every war? Of course there would be. But in a short time ISIS and other Muslim terrorist groups would be tired of death and destruction in their country and would be happy to surrender. America's goody two shoes politicians refuse to go along with winning because they don't want America to look like the aggressor even though it was America who was attacked.

They may not call Korea technically a win....but look a North Korea and look at South Korea. We accomplished our purpose of keeping the North from overtaking the South. When you look at all those free people....it was a win. Look at North Korea, they were and are the losers.

As interesting as these charts are, at least the one of the Air Force does not show everything under Air Force command. Missiles are not listed, spy satellites are not listed, and I didn't look closely enough.....but are drones listed?

For an enemy the sight of an A10 coming up blazing away from behind a tree has to be the scariest moment of his life. Even if he doesn"t die he lives to tell his friends. It would be a shame to get rid of that plane. Faster planes can not do the same job it does.

Do you think there is a reason for this. The writer didn't want them. It is what it is.

As long as I can spend someone else's money, I'm going to SPLURGE.
That is the attitude in the federal, state and local governments. They Want more money- they raise taxes. The 47% feeding at the trough don't care and vote for the status quo. Once politicians are in office, it is almost impossible to get them out.
I was in the military and waste was the norm. It sounds so simple - SUPPORT the Military, but the devil is in the details.
Besides, we have become the Protectors of the World. Thousands of Americans have died in the last 66 years and what does America have to show for it!
