You're wrong if you think because a man died while fighting for our country is why we stand for the anthem. This man fought for our rights and freedoms, one being the right to protest at a game. People going to a funeral for this man would stand. People going to a football game may protest. For god's sakes people, get your priorities straight...it's a football game, not a funeral and if you fought for this country and don't know any better, maybe you'd better learn what you fought for! smh

I, for one, resent being told to "get your priorities straight" from someone who thinks a show of disrespect to their country is a proper form of protest. I challenge you to reassess YOUR priorities.

The national anthem is a song of loyalty to our country. The protesters are loyal to what the country gives them, ie freedom to protest, but they are not displaying loyalty to the country.
I protest the protest. I have that right also. "Gimme, gimme, gimme but don't ask me to give" seems very selfish.

Complete Anthem. It is actually written to the flag it self and the values is represents of the nation.
Read it and see how far our leaders have strayed from the values expressed in this song.
Too bad the other verses are ignored.

O say can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hail'd at the twilight's last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight
O'er the ramparts we watch'd were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket's red glare, the bomb bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there,
O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore dimly seen through the mists of the deep
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream,
'Tis the star-spangled banner - O long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore,
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion
A home and a Country should leave us no more?
Their blood has wash'd out their foul footstep's pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave,
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

O thus be it ever when freemen shall stand
Between their lov'd home and the war's desolation!
Blest with vict'ry and peace may the heav'n rescued land
Praise the power that hath made and preserv'd us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto - "In God is our trust,"
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Right on my friend, couldn't be more correct. There is a time and place to exercise your First Amendment right... during the National Anthem is not the time or place. And as far as being oppressed and put down, where else but in the USA are you going to make million upon millions of dollars playing a game?

I join you in honoring fallen soldiers and those who have served to protect our country and values.

NFL players are bringing attention to a national tragedy and disgrace--young men, mostly black and brown, unnecessarily killed by police while being taken into custody or while in custody. Keeping our country from becoming a police state is one of the reasons those soldiers fight and die.

There is no unnecessary killing of any blacks in America by the cops. Far more whites are killed by cops in America than ever were thought to kill blacks.

Great response! Sometimes it seems as though we are reverting back to the 70's, when the flag/service men & women are a big joke.

As far as I can tell the protesters are only fit to wear the uniforms they have now, the all important NFL. If they don't like living in the land of opportunity they can move out anytime to any third rate country in Africa they choose. Let's see how much money they can make there.

Well said.

Unfortunately, some people don't understand that the injustices that they perceive are NOT caused by the government but are caused by other people. My wife was backing out of our driveway one evening and a new, red pickup truck came flying down the street and then slammed on his brakes causing his front end to drop heavily from braking. I gave him a dirty look because he had backed out of his driveway 2 blocks up the street (15mph posted speed limit) and was speeding in order to get there that fast. He looked at me and said "I wasn't speeding, I was driving normally." and I yelled "yeah, that's why your front end dropped like it did when you braked." The gentleman was a black minister and the next thing he said was that I was just complaining because he was a persecuted minority. I replied that at least (assuming his ancestors really were slaves, they got to ride here on ships. I am a member of the Chickasaw Tribe and my ancestors got to walk from Florida to Oklahoma in the "Trail of Tears" so don't tell me how persecuted you are. I said, " you have 4 new cars, a nice house, a good job and are well educated. I don't think you are particularly discriminated against. Members of your Church that are paying your salary may be but NOT you. I have been fortunate in that, having been in the military, I have traveled all over the world. In those travels, I have noticed that MOST of the people in this country have it pretty good. Sure, we have a ways to go and there are some very bigoted people here (as in other parts of the world) of all races. Bigotry isn't an attitude that is held ONLY by whites but by all races. And some of the biggest bigots justify it by claiming that they, or their friends or their race deserve it because of deeds that happened hundreds of years before they were born.
Well said. img src="https://static.uglyhedgehog.c... (show quote)

That sounds right .

A good idea would be to have those athletes refusing to stand for the national anthem to remain in the locker room while it is being played. Even better idea would be to have them stay there during the whole game.

I agree wth everything you've said, I would rather spend time with these young men and women then these loons in college. Saw a video a few days ago of a college girl who demanded that this guy take off his hat, which read "make America great again", because it offended her and she considered it hate speech.

They would not put the uniform of a soldier on. The protesters are all cowards. Think not! Just ask any one of them what have they done for their country. Better yet ask them what have they done for the black community.
