For all your "struggles" in photographing them, those images are awesome! Thanks for posting!
Thanks DR J! There's no sense of work when you're doing what you enjoy.

The word is they run the same show on Friday as the official show days on Saturday and Sunday. That's not exactly the case. Although, you do have the beach and the planes without the crowds. Some years, also the best weather of the weekend falls on Practice Friday. I made it out Friday for the first time. At 10am they came on the PA saying they'd delay an hour with bad weather coming. They should have said "You have 5-minute to RUN for cover!". About 10-minutes later it was a typhoon with people running for the vendor tents where we crowded in for 20+ minutes of pouring raining coming in sideways to the open-sided tents...

CHG_CANON, Very nice shots. I always love airshow pics. The Heritage, fly by is always an impressive and emotional flight. The military is extremely picky who can fly so close to their hardware so there are only a few pilots qualified to make that Heritage flight. I know one of them and he has told me it is quite a challenge as the F-16 must fly slow enough not to overrun the P-51 and at those flight speeds it is very tricky for both pilots to deal with minor wind or turbulence.

Hey Paul, thanks for the info and encouragement. On the show weekends I'm not close enough to the PA to hear what's being said so I didn't know / hear much of the discussion of the Heritage Flight.

Glad to help. I used a CPL filter for the first time at an airshow. The planes in a blue sky over a blue lake has left me with a blue cast in years past. The problem or thing to keep in mind is the horizon to horizon movement of the planes does not always keep the CPL properly oriented to the direction of the sun as you following with camera and lens.

I came through on Friday when they were practicing. Unfortunately, I was trying to negotiate heavy traffic right through Chicago at the time. Couldn't take any shots at all. Glad you did. Nice work!

I pity you the experience of being in traffic near the lake in Chicago at any point before, during or after the airshow or practice dates ...
