Ah, I knew someone would probably ask about these features. The PCF is pretty much Auto Mode. So, it dials in the necessary discombobulation and Heisenberg compensations without any input from the operator. When one thinks about it, this is somewhat crucial considering the possible variations in velocity and direction of the wind from moment to moment.

Don't worry about it. The good TSA folks at Milwaukee General Mitchell International Airport have it all covered for you!

Yeah - me too. Certainly for any portrait work. Even if you can use a modifier, you need a person to hold it. Then the wind blows the subject's hair and clothing. A waste of time. Maybe the whole IDEA is the subject in the wind.

But I suppose there are other outdoor subjects that are unaffected by wind that could benefit from a softer light. some types of products I guess.

It may also depend upon the nature of the wind! Internal or external!

CaptainC, the Deluxe 2X version handles both north and south of the equator scenarios. The Deluxe version is hemisphere specific. One chooses either north or south. The 2X is actually a better buy, even if one doesn't leave their hemisphere.

Does it make Coriolis Force corrections or do you have to account for latitude manually? And north/south hemisphere, of course.

Gene, the deluxe version comes with a No. 4 grounding cable and lightning rod, which was only one of the reasons for the deluxe version. The deluxe version also has a anemometer, which I failed to mention. That provides the necessary wind data to be read and input into the PCF to determine the necessary spin necessary to correct for windage.

Thanks for brining up those crucial points.

Thanks, I just ordered one!

What light modifier do you guys use in a high wind?

Puns aside, I just use the little flip up white reflector that is part of my SB-900 & SB-910 strobe units. This has the least wind resistance and it really does a good job of reflecting the pesky light photons although its computational power is minimal to non-existent.

Two questions - does your filter attract lightning? I understand the original had an issue with that. And do you recommend the variable angle one or the fixed one?

The foil hat he wears deflects lightning, so no worries there.

You mean when your normal camera batteries run out of juice and you have to put six AA's in your battery grip?

My normal batteries are EN-El15s or EN-Ele, not AA.

Sure, I agree, but we're both abnormal aren't we? I like the fact that I have a battery grip carrier that will hold AA's. I always travel with those!
