I got an Ethernet card yesterday, installed it, and was able to stay online all day, something I haven't been able to do in weeks. After being online for about four hours today, I lost the connection. I'll probably set up the new router today and see if that helps, but I'm not optimistic. The next step might be the local shop, although I hate spending a lot of money on questionable repairs. They can tell me anything and charge what they want, and how would I know any better?
Ever since I installed Windows 10 I am dropping my connection 2 or 3 times a day...my router just goes out...and I have to reconnect

This problem came a long time after Win10, and that computer is the only device affected.
Well, you have probably eliminated the usual suspects...if the router is fine with your other machines...thats not going to be the problem I would guess...new ethernet board...so router to computer should be good. And all of the other villains check out...its possibly something with the computer.
But I am like you...I hate to take a computer to a shop...its like open season on your wallet.
Took my Viao to the geek squad at best buy and they wanted $400 something to fix a loose usb port...Took it to a local repair shop and they fixed the problem for $39...while I waited.

I connected the new router, but the Dell could not get a connection. I played around with the cables, switching most of them, and I got a connection. I had switched them around several times before with no result, so I think this is just a coincidence. I'll see if it maintains a connection for a few days.

Check with your internet service provider. The signal coming into your residence may be weak, intermittent or otherwise not up to standards. Also, the modem provided by your ISP feeding your router could be faulty or losing its authentication. Possibly, your computer, router and card are fine.

The repair guy was here a few weeks ago and he replaced some connectors. He said the signal was strong, but they wee going to install something on the pole to make it better. They were working on the pole the next day. Everything else in the house works fine, so I suspect it is a computer problem (Dell from 2/2014). If I ever find a solution, I'll post it.
Jerry, mine was doing this also. They had to replace the line. No more problems.

The line from the pole to the house? With everything else working fine, I don't think they would want to do that.
