I would love to hear the sounds of the water as it flows over the rocks. Lovely scene nicely photographed.

Thank you Gaylord for the nice comments. I think the sounds of the water flowing over rocks is what draws me to waterfalls. They are probably my favorite things to photograph.

It's always been a washout to get my D5300 to do silky water. Do I need a neutral density filter?

If you want really silky water on a day when there is a lot of light you might want to consider using an ND filter, maybe one on the low end around an ND3. I have never used one myself on waterfalls because I typically expose for stop action. The way I did these was to stop my aperture way down to f/11 or f/16 and did not use a shutter speed slower than 0.6 seconds. That works pretty well on waterfalls with less water flowing.

Excellent and most enjoyable set Andrea. All are super, but I am picking #3 as favorite here.

On Tuesday I went hiking with a friend and captured some waterfalls while we were out. These are all at Hanging Rock State Park in Danbury, North Carolina. At the third waterfall I must have gotten a couple spots of water on my lens that I did not realize were there until I processed the images. I almost didn't post them because they are not up to my usual standards but decided I would after all. Please enjoy.

I like the Hidden Falls with slow shutter speed. There is not a tremendous amount of water cascading and that, I think, lends itself to a slower speed.

Thank you Tom for the visit and comments. I do like the look of #3 as well. Since I am more of a stop action person when it comes to waterfalls I don't tend to prefer the silky water look but in this case where there is not much water it makes for a better look to go with slower shutter speeds and get a more smoothed look.

Thank you Erich for viewing and commenting. I tend to agree with you on the slower shutter speeds when there is not a lot of water. I shot these at 1/5 second and 0.6 seconds so both were on the slow side.
